cooking can be a fun thing to learn with your loved one.
get some nice books on simpler recipes. ask your mother in law and mother what works. and begin trying out recipes that are easier for you to follow.
you will be fine. men cook well too. but women do a better job since so much is invested in the concept that women cook better or that they are supposed to cook.
cooking is fun and when you make something for your family, you feel good.
:>
u should not feel so dejected. they will. ideally, anyone who wants to eat what you will cook, should also be able to cook and understand that you are learning to cook. soon, u will be able to make good food. marriage is not why you are learning to cook, think that you are learning to cook, so that u can be able to cook, regardless, and do so with a sense of learning happily. the best part of learning to cook is ur creativity and knowledge of nutrition.
u can only cook when u are in a happy mood. :>
and if something gets burnt or is uncooked, next time follow the recipe carefully. u will be fine :>

hi catty...i could not cook at all when i first got married, i burned the first meal i prepared my husband. But i found desicookbook.com after you get the hang of it you can modify recipes yourself and hey now everyone loves my cooking....and this is coming from a mexican girl cooking pakistani food :)
i got married and didnt know how to cook at all.. first few months after marriage my mom used to send me food EVERYDAY but i realized i had to learn.. once you get started its pretty basic.. i love cooking now :D even if my mom says she will be sending something i always cook back up food not because i dont trust her cooking ofcourse..just becasue iam so used to cooking everyday.
dont stress over it.. you will learn quickly.. if your living with in laws you will learn even faster.. i was alone with my husband and actually thought cooking for one was pointless (i did not enjoy pakistani food back then)
oh for recipes check out foodilicous its a page on facebook with amazing recipes.. iv'e tried ALOT of them with great success on all of them :D
Use Shan masala , they have masala and recipe for almost every desi dish, all inside the box. I follow the instructions and never failed. Of course you can use less or more than recommended quantity in the included recipe depending if you want more namak and mirch or less.
do u follow the instructions word by word ? My khala always confuses me makes me use half of the masalas and follow her recipes. whetever i make with shan masala always turn out so pheeka .

Yes and no , yes for most and no for some , I and my wife have learned how much Shan masala to use for which dish to make sure that we do not end up making it to hot/mirchila.

They do indeed. I noticed the other day they even have an 'Egg Masala' , the box has a picture of a fried egg on it. Confused, I picked it up - and on closer inspection it was a mix of salt and pepper.
