Re: Canon Rebel XT
which Sigma was that.. the f/3.5-4.5 or constant f/2.8? if it's the f/3.5 version than u can also look at the the Nikon 18-70mm which usually comes as the D70s kit lens.. but then again.. once u get your hands on a 18-200mm VR everything else will stay in the bag.
and 5Abi is right.. next samples should be of Noo yaak's kabootars..
Re: Canon Rebel XT
don’t look at the handsome dood, focus on the quality of the picture.
Its the f/3.5-5.6. Its till I can get the VR delivered anyway, so no harm done.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
Its imperative that you take a walk down to central park one of these days.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
Sure thing, although today's not that bright a day. Maybe next week or when my darling new lens is delivered. We should start a new section in the Images forum called the "Kabootari's from Around the World". What do you think?
Re: Canon Rebel XT
"Kabootris from around the world", sounds like a good idea man. Dont you have any pics of any kabootris from your trip to the UK pindside?
Re: Canon Rebel XT
I do, but if i post them then i'd be "aak'd" from my family's "jaidaad".
They are actually from urban UK. Pindside it was like there was no population.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
All you middle-aged men, get over the kabootri-mania, please. You are blocking the view of youngsters standing in line behind you.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
By the way, PA, I am looking for an all-purpose lens from Canon's EF/EF-S line. The use is primarily portraits and indoor photography. Also, a separate lens for high speed action/sports scenes. Any suggestions?
Right now I don't want to spend for an 'L' series, so pls stay away from them.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
The young ones are already with the kabootries mang!
Faisal, too bad you don't have a Nikon or the 18-200 mm VR would fit ur needs for both those lenses.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
Faisal come join the the big men and sing along “abhi to mein jawan hoon” ![]()
Re: Canon Rebel XT
^ You guys need to sing to convince yourself?
Come on, I am sure you are jawaan where it matters.
Tofibaba, you mean, something like this](Google Shopping - Shop Online, Compare Prices & Where to Buy).
Re: Canon Rebel XT
hahaha AamlaiT bhee bun jayay aur anday bhee na tootaiN..
There is no reason to stay away from “L” where they’re required.. but there is a way out. Primes. They are every bit as good as “L” lenses. If one is not averse to changing lenses for the right application. Alas, most people want the convenience of zooms hence the eternal quest for the most suitable lens.
For a general purpose lens on Canon mount, take a look at the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
.![]()
It’s a decent multipurpose lens.. makes an excellent travel lens too… and can take care of those sports where u have a good seat closer to the action.
It’s a fast lens operations wise but a little ‘slow’ aperture wise (f/4-f/5.6) so indoors you’d have to bump up the ISO to get decent shutter speeds.. but the IS wil be of some help.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
I actually thin Canon’s have a lot more variety in native lenses. That was one of the reasons why I was considering the Rebel (plus the fact that its a preferred brand by ahem tennis players as point out to me by Mr. 5watery himself).
One of the lenses I was looking at was the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6. It may be a little on the heavy side but the options it gives are really nice. I’ve also heard great reviews about it. Other than that Tamron has some nice options, including the one you pointed out.
What do you use currently?
PA, I’m curious to find out what your equipment is as well.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
I think the tennis players push the compacts.. not the Rebel.
that’s really expensive and heavy.. and did I mention it’s expensive?
Currently i have the 20D and a 300D as a backup (not for long.. will be sold off soon). I’m a minimalist when it comes to lenses.. a 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8 and a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is all i have. I might replace the Tammy with the 24-105mm f/4 L IS and then add a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 to complete the outfit. Either that or break the bank and get the next generation of affordable FF from Canon or a used 5D when prices go under $1800 .. (Gizzyyy we need a :cheapskate: yaar.. and I’ll claim exclusive use of it too :snooty:)
Re: Canon Rebel XT
Well, it IS an L series camera. Its just like going with the D series in Nikon. If I'm still as keen on photography 6-8 mths down the line I'm going to upgrade. Let's see.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
dude you ARE in the "D" series.. the D70s has a "D" .. :)
but seriously, the D2 series has it's own issues.. I still think the D70s is the best bang for the buck camera in Nikon's lineup.
It's enough camera to last you years.. all u'd need down the road are better lenses.. like the mouth watering 17-55mm f/2.8 or the legendary 70-200mm f/2.8 VR
Re: Canon Rebel XT
Can any of you uncles please explain why dSLR are better than digital cameras and traditional SLR cameras for that matter? I just know the digital camera technology. I know traditional SLR are still far better than digital images when it comes to clarity (pixels=details).
zara elaborate karein plz, in detail.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
Uncle tooN.. tairaa… ![]()
“Better” is very subjective.. but it’s just about physics. The more sensor real estate you have, the more light you can gather and hence a better SNR for your final capture translating into “better” picture quality. Add to that the versatility of adding different lenses for different functionality.
Film was surpassed way back when sensors reached about 6MP. Resolution is just one part of the equation, a lot also depends on the quality of these pixels. While professional slow speed slide film is theoretically able to resolve about 22MP, it requires professional high end drum scanning. Even then the results are mixed cuz of it’s grain structure apparent in the capture plus any dust/scratches that go with it.
Today’s Digital SLR sensors are every bit as good if not “better” than film in their resolving power. Some even surpass it, like the 16MP sensor in the Canon 1Ds II approaches ‘quality’ of Medium Format film!!
Add to that the tremendous flexibility with digital captures, no more developing costs and waits, ‘no charge’ for taking as many pictures as your cards can hold, being able to instantly review your images, not being forced to print the whole roll but only the stuff you want, being your own photo finisher and not relying on the lab technicians to interpert what u wanted out of your image are just some reasons for the demise of film.
Re: Canon Rebel XT
DSLR’s are digital, but I’m sure you meant Point&Shoot teeny models. SLRs provide for a lot more control on the way light gets in the camera and images are made on the sensors. E.g. taking a picture of the same waterfall can look totally different with different settings, i.e. you can make each drop falling stand out or you can make it look like the fall is a curtain in front of the drop. In addition that there’s an option to change lenses and use whatever you want for the creativity to be fulfilled.
Well its Digital now, so instant gratification. A lot of camera companies are starting to stop manufacturing film based cameras.
Again I’m going to improvise and assume that you meant print/negatives as opposed to digital imagery. DSLR’s have what’s called Raw mode where all minute details of the moment are recorded in the image. One of the good things I like about DSLRs is how they capture details of the exposure, so if you want to shoot the same shot you can expiriment around with different settings in manual mode to see how they would look.
