Canadians to launch ''weapons inspections'' in the United States

“The team had made a formal request to the US Defence Department in the past week for authorisation to enter the site, Canadian activists Rooting out Evil said . The group charges that biological and chemical weapons, including ricin and anthrax are developed and stored at Edgewood in breach of international chemical and biological conventions.”

US military officials refused a 13-member international delegation entry to an army base after the group asked to carry out an inspection for illegal arms at the site. MPs, scientists, academics, religious and union leaders from Canada, the United States, Britain, Italy and Denmark were denied access to the US Army site at Edgewood Chemical Biological Center in Maryland, after army officials said they lacked the proper accreditation.

The team had made a formal request to the US Defence Department in the past week for authorisation to enter the site, Canadian activists Rooting out Evil said . The group charges that biological and chemical weapons, including ricin and anthrax are developed and stored at Edgewood in breach of international chemical and biological conventions.

After being asked by military officials to leave the site, a British parliamentarian and leader of Labour Against the War, Alan Simpson, said: “Had this inspection taken place in Iraq, and had we been denied access to such a site, President (George W) Bush would have declared material breach of Resolution 1441 and authorised war on Iraq.”

The group was met by base security, said Army spokeswoman Major Amy Hannah. “We received a letter from the group,” she said. “We heard their concerns.” The letter, addressed to Secretary of Defence Doland Rumsfeld, “will be forwarded to the higher headquarters,” she said. “It was all very peaceful. It was very cordial”. The US Army is subject to “a variety of treaties, and we do receive inspections by credentialed inspectors”, she said.

The US should own up about this and other such plants that produce WMD, especially as they are lecturing Iraq and other countries to do the same. Why such blatant double standards and hypocrisy?

^ Because not all men and countries are created equal. This ain't no Khilafahan Utopia my friend.

Yup some countries are sewers whilst others are the arses.

fox guarding the hen house

I wonder which one’s you mean? :hehe:

even though i agree that UN should be asking every suspected country including U.S. to open up and declare their "weapons of mass destruction" and if they don't, be prepared for inspections, I dont' think these activists have any jurisdiction and authority to go and ask US government to let them inspect their sites. Only UN should have the power to do so and since UN = US (mostly) they aren't gonna do that.

Anyways, these activists can't just demand US to let them in their military bases just because they want to inspect. I totally understand their point of view and i agree with them, but they just don't have the authority to do so.

on the comment from ChannMahi that Canada only has plastic toys, well, we also have "great" and good old (emphasis on old) CKing helicopters which can be shot down by a plain riffle. LOL :)

If they don't wish to address this, they could put an end to their chemical genocide of continuing to export asbestos to Europe and India which will eventually kill many thousands of people. Oh, Canada!

That's a question the world is going to ask about the United States. Why are plants like Edgewood still producing biological and chemical weapons, including ricin and anthrax in breach of international chemical and biological conventions?
