Re: Can Pakistan survive without US aid?
Brother, are you trying to joke or your posts are serious? ![]()
According to data presented by FAS (you posted), Pakistan received in aid and CSF (coalition support fund):
2001-2005 = $6594 million ~ $1319.5 million a year on average. That means.
2001: $1319.5 million (whatever Pakistan got after Sept 2001)
2002: $1319.5 million
2003: $1319.5 million
2004: $1319.5 million
2005: $1319.5 million
[Total 2001-05 (5 years) = $6594 million). Above is average figure per year]
2006: $1800 million
2007: $1703 million
2008: $2043 million (most came during later part of 2008)
2009: $3041 million
2010: $4462 million
2011: $3644 million + ($2444 m + CSF $1200 m+ to come)
2012 (expected): $2965 million + ($2965 m + CSF $1240 m+ to come)
CSF payment is shows as Nil in data (as it seems when data was made, CSF was not paid). Anyhow, CSF figures I added is from notes [read notes ‘h’]:
h. Congress appropriated $1.6 billion for FY2011 and the Administration requested $1.75 billion for FY2012, in additional CSF for all U.S. coalition partners. Pakistan has in the past received more than three-quarters of such fund.
That means:
From 2001 to 2007 (8 years of Musharraf period) = $10099 million
From 2008 to 2011 (4 years excluding 2012) = $ 13190 million
That means, PPP received $3091 million more in 4 years what Musharraf got in 8 years (PPP received $13190 compared to $10099 m received by Mush govt).
[Even if one take away CSF payment for year 2011, total aid was still $1891 million more in 4 years of PPP rule than 8 years of Musharraf. And yes, before Sept 2001, Musharraf government received ‘Nil’ aid from USA or from anywhere].
On top of that PPP increased more than $20000 million foreign debt in 4 years when Musharraf increased almost nil foreign debt in 9 years he ruled … And the result is:
Rupee devalued 50 percent (from early 2008 to early 2012).
Ave inflation tripled compared to average inflation of Mush time.
GDP growth rate that was averaging ~ 7 percent more than halved.
External debt went up by 50 percent (over $60 bn from ~$40 bn).
National debt in rupees doubled (from ~ Rs 4500 bn to ~ Rs 10000 bn).
And …
Pakistan became basket case from one of the fasted growing economy in the world.
To hide the facts, Pakistan government has stopped putting facts on net. For instance:
State bank of Pakistan site (State Bank of Pakistan - The Central Bank) has stopped giving many data and whatever data state bank gives they stopped giving them going back many years (what was norm during Musharraf period).
On the other hand, it seems Pakistan statistical department site (www.statpak.gov.pk), that use to give economical and other data from 1947, has disappeared.
Nice going. I congratulate those who loved to see this in 2007/08 ![]()
