Also very important, look at their portfolio. Not just the pretty pics on their website, but ask to see a complete wedding, from end to end. This will give you an idea of what percentage of their photography is good and what percentage is average. Even the best photographer will have some so-so shots, so ask to see a full wedding- it will give you a better idea of their style and work.

Thats great and very sound advice! I wish every1 knew this before coming to me, asking for only background changes.. which I do but I wanto try out more than just tht.. lol!

Re: Can Non Desi Photographers really Capture our Desiness?

I personally do not think a non-desi knows how to shoot dark skin. Whether its brown, or black.

Take the movie bollywood Hollywood for example. In American standards tan is attractive, everyone looks so dark, yellow, and discolored, VS Bollywood movies where they add extra brightness, and airbrush effects to make our skin glow.

Now you may be able to find a good photographer, that can do similar editing to America's Next Top Model photographers, or the air brush work that is done in Cassie's videos. The women look bright, flawless, and have a natural glow.

I think the most important aspect is viewing each photographer's portfolio and discussing your expectations. If most of ther pictures are visually satisfying to you, than you probably have nothing to worry about. If they are not, than it probably is best you choose another one.

Play close attention to their reaction when you ask them a question or discuss a concern. A good photographer knows how to shoot any skin, in any light, and can edit any picture, no matter what the subject is and what the background is. Most should be able to produce pictures in your style, and SHOULD be able to tell you how they will achieve this. Example: editing, airbrushing, increasing brightness, etc.

A photographer that doesn't know much will get defensive when you ask them a question or discuss a concern.

I went through this while attempting to choose my photographer. I myself know a little bit about taking pictures in proper light and editing to hide flaws and increase the uniqueness of the photograph. I would do my own photographer if I could lol. Though I know no matter HOW good my pictures turn out, I will definitely still be editing them. LOL

Feel free to PM me if you need any help.

I wish you the best of luck!!

Re: Can Non Desi Photographers really Capture our Desiness?

Many non-desi photographers provide an engagement shoot or a pre-shoot for nominal charges or one can have a pic taken in their eid finery to see how desi skin would turn out in their photographs.

ouch! that’s a broad stroke to paint non-desi photographers with
and remember, movie editing is very different from photo editing- perhaps their intention when editing the movie was to present our desi’ness differently or something.

lots of gora photographers have done a great job in capturing non-gora weddings, my own wedding photogs included.

have a look at a few great examples:

one of my favourite all-time photographers- Multi-Cultural Affair by Christian Oth Studios
(parts 2, 3, and 4 are just above the comments section of the page)

like you said, it comes down to the photographer and how skilled they are. and as it happens, price correlates very strongly with quality. this is not an area of your wedding you want to cheap out on.
