i wouldn't mix and match styles/types of jewelry but that was because i wanted a really clean look. lots of people do combine family heirloom jewelry with new sets of different styles and make it work. there are no hard and fast rules about these things, do what makes you happy, try them on together with the bridal top take pictures of them together, each one separately and then look at the pictures later and decide.
