What I know is that the adab of sacrifice is to tease the animal away from the rest of the flock, so they cannot see it slaughtered. Give it a drink of water, blind fold it so it cannot see the blade.
So it must affect them.
yes you are absolutely right , it is one of the adaab of sacrifice to hide the blade from the animal at slaughter time .... wow , that means they do feel the hurt of losing their mates ... uff , i am softie at heart ... I cant bear it all !
ummmm ... this is complicated guys .. but i must say animals have a profound effect of emotions ... they wager their tails and sit in ur lap ... its all the showing of emotions ... suicide they cant do because they dont have weapons and pills like us its just coincidence that some animal jumps out thinking he will escape and be safe ... but dies falling to be crippled to death
that lemming video you posted has been debunked as a hoax several times. it pops up in media studies classes all the time as a case study in distortion:

They defo feel a range of emotions, my parents used to tell me that when I went out my dog would sit by the front door waiting the whole time, he would be really quiet and withdrawn when normally he'd be bouncing all over the place. Also, if I cry or hurt myself he gets really really upset and jumps up to try and lick my face. This happens every single time. Also, friends have told me that their families tell them when their dogs hear the engines of their cars pulling up in the drive the dogs become really animated and happy and run straight to the front door. It's sooooo cute...
There have been studies in medical journals proving that dogs feel emotions such as anxiety, depression and jealousy. I've always thought they are like us, just more 'scaled down' like they have the brains of a toddler or a young child. Don't know if they could actually commit suicide but am sure if they were v.upset and attached to someone who was no longer around they could die of a broken heart.
I've always wondered that!!!?? I read a study once, that animals can experience a profound feeling of sadness when their play/hunt/sex partner dies.
So can they commit suicide?
lolz that cracked me up ahahhahahahahaha
i was literally laughing out loud
on a serious note
i dont think they can since they cant think. ALLAH SWT has designed them to do certain things and they do those things perfectly.
No matter which animal..they could commit suicide and possible BUT only if they knew what suicide is ..
humans commit suicide cos they know what it is and in definition is k to end your life.. but do animals have thiis understanding why they wud wana end their life
Like I was saying above, Elephants have been seen hanging around bones of other dead elephants as though the were mourning. So it seems they atleast have a concept of death.
If so, then I suppose they would be the only others ones able to contemplate their own death on some rudimentry level. And if they can do that, its possible that an elephant may realize its life isnt worth living.
yehh i wud seem soo but . the question is that .. do they have the understanding of the concept in which method or why death occurs.. then it wud be possible for them
Well, one of the elephants that I cited refused to eat after the death of his twin… That could possibly be a clue, although its not conclusive.
All animals have an inate sense of what can or cant kill them. Animals tend to know what vegetation is poison and what isnt. A Zebra knows that if you see an lion in the brush, its a sure sign of danger and runnining is in order.
So I can imagine, that if an animal knows the dangers to avoid in order to stay alive, it must also know to approach those very dangers in order to kill itself.
In the case of an elephant, im sure they know what will happen if they stop eating. So an elephant that starts refusing food, must know its putting itself in danger. Hence, its attempting suicide.
