Re: Can a Woman...
Nice thought indeed. In the 21st century things must change and woman must become a pope.
Re: Can a Woman...
OK, a million times I have said this, but I will say this one more time.
Catholics have the Pope, the Pope only leads other Catholics, not all christians. Catholics believe a woman cannot lead a flock (congregation). We do not tell other people they must have women do this. If a woman (or anyone, even Muslim as you see in the paper) comes and asks to use a church to offer prayer, we allow them to pray. We do not refuse people who wish to continue a relationship with God entry to our churches simply because they are a different religion. Simple. It wasn't a political statement.
Never at any time have you ever heard a Catholic say that Muslims must allow women to lead a church. Other christian denominations, but not Catholics.
There are other christian sects that believe women can lead. That is fine for them. They are the ones taking this issue and running with it. Please don't confuse them with the Pope and Catholics.
Thanks.
Re: Can a Woman…
Nah…she is still a muslim. She believes in Allah and Rasool. The fact that she has sifferences with mainstream islam regarding role of women in Mosque, does not make her non-muslim.

Hey, if u don’t like business partnership with me, thats fine…i will not share my profits with u!
Re: Can a Woman…
I dont like Pope and Catholicism, but the church’s act to let that muslim woman lead prayer was commendable.
Re: Can a Woman...
Catholics believe a woman cannot lead a flock (congregation).
^Why such belief?
Re: Can a Woman…
Nowhere in the Quran does it say that a Muslim Woman cannot lead prayer congregagtions, niether is there any authentic hadith which categorically state the same. Unfortunately for all religions, Islam included they have been dominated by men who have written interpertations according to the prejuidices of their times.
Take the example of Hazrat Aisha. How come she was considered eligible to lead muslim men which included close associates of the prophet into war, yet we find it difficult that women cannot lead prayers? It all boils down to one thing and that is religious practices have assumed supremacy over religious ideals.
Re: Can a Woman...
^ I concur.
Re: Can a Woman...
Folks, the topic is "Can a Woman take a role of (Catholic) Pope?"
Why are so many of you going off tangents and bringing other religions in the discussions? As if we don't have enough discussions on role of Women in Islam and Women leading the prayers etc.
Re: Can a Woman…
PCG: Buddhism (sp) isnt sexist. As far as I heard from you Islam wasn’t either, it was just our logic that was flawed ![]()

Re: Can a Woman...
I'm sorry - bad semantics on my part. Islam is not misogynst. Muslims are.
Most religions as per their religous text - are misogynst.
Dunno about the eastern religions much though, but I do think Hinduism is pretty misogynst - again I dont know if its due to the vedas or to the followers.
Buddhism I'm not familiar with, but Buddhists are sexist. When was the last time you saw a female buddhist monk?
Re: Can a Woman...
I think because monks are only male, the equivalent in christianity are nuns (who are only female). The only difference between what they are and what they do is the gender and the name. Both have the same roles.
Is there something similiar in buddhism?
Re: Can a Woman...
dunno.
no such thing in Islam at least.
Re: Can a Woman…
I gather you do not believe in Sunnah.

Re: Can a Woman…
You gather wrong. Please do not jump to conclusion simply because the argument doesnt gell with your conditioning or understandings of faith.
