There are some very exceptional situations where this is possible.
World is full of different mix of people. Still very uncommon.
Thats just not the nature of man and woman relation. We are talking relation not casual encounters.
However,
These platonic relations may have following reasons (not all inclusive)
She is ugly, not feminine enough or he is not good looking and is a bit feminine/childish.
He is married and very commited to his wife. She just has it in her mind but cannot reveal.
He/she worries about what will happen if wife finds out he/she is developing something.
Socially/religiously/culturally they are very different and hang around for one or other reason.
He/She is smart and avoids situations where he/she could think otherwise.
Now:
If she is married and he is single, that is almost unheard of.
