BMI is body mass index, it is a calculation which takes into consideration ones height and weight. It is considered within healthy range if ones BMI is 18.5 - 24.9 (these individuals have the least risk of developing health complications) . The formula to calculate BMI is:
weight (kg)/ height (m)2
BMI should never be looked at by itself, waist circumference, %body fat and % muscle mass should also be considered. Since those with high muscle mass may have a higher BMI which which would not put them at a high risk for health complications.
