i think there was a huge cake decorating thread that was a sticky… where did it go?
cake pops are SO easy, khawa! you bake a cake, let it cool, crumble it and mix in buttercream. then you make the balls by hand and voila! you can dip them in melted chocolate if you want after for a very basic, but delicious, cake pop. otherwise, peep Bakerella- she’s incredible!

kaash amongst all the other awesome virtues god has bestowed me with. patience was one of em :(

A question regarding fondant.. For how long can we store it? I use wilton's.
Re: Cake decorating, cupcakes, cake pops etc Share tips, tricks and pics
^ As long as you store it in an airtight container you should be able to store it for a loooong long time. Don't put it in a plastic bag and store it in the pantry, it will dry out. Remember it has to be airtight, a regular Glad ka dabba won't do it.

I always tell people, who're doing last minute cakes, to go with cake mixes. You can't go wrong with them. I prefer Betty Crocker's Devil's food.
I follow the recipe on the back but make some changes. Replace water with milk, oil with butter. Add an extra egg. Add 2 tbsp of sour cream. 1 packet of instant chocolate pudding. Add 1 tbsp of cocoa powder.
You'll have the yummiest, moistest chocolate cake! Pour some chocolate ganache on top and people will be raving about it :)

Ahh thanks for the lovely idea, but too late i guess :(
Anyway i tried fauzia's and everyone loved it :) Alhumdulilah.
i've made betty crockers devil's food before and it's love.. i'll try it the way you've mentioned too.

Question regarding tiered cakes. How do u get to know quantity of batter required for each pan. Especially If ur doing a different flavor in each tier..
Say if I'm making just a 6" cake how much batter I'll need? Any recipe I follow normally is for 8" or 9" pans.

You'll need to figure it out. It depends on how high your cake will be. And yes usually they're for 9"-10" cake pans. You could make half the recipe and see how it turns out. But usually 6" cake pans aren't as deep, so if you're making a tiered cake you'd want to bake 2 (or 3 depending on how high u want it) 6" pans and stack them to give to cake a much nicer look.
I don't half my recipes. I usually make some more cake and freeze it for making cake pops later on.

Wendy do u know how to make fondant
Re: Cake decorating, cupcakes, cake pops etc Share tips, tricks and pics
^ I used to make marshmallow fondant. But found it too hard to work with. Now I just buy my fondant ready made as it's much easier to work with and takes color much better.

Ok thanks! For how long can u freeze cakes?
Re: Cake decorating, cupcakes, cake pops etc Share tips, tricks and pics
I have never frozen my cakes for more than a couple of weeks. But I guess you could go longer with them in the freezer. They usually turn out super moist and yummy.
Re: Cake decorating, cupcakes, cake pops etc Share tips, tricks and pics
So like, you thaw them for over night or for a few hours?
