Cabby Killed

Re: Cabby Killed

Muzna, I don't subscribe to an ideology of vengeance, which our justice system is unfortunately built on, rather than on a real desire to prevent crime. Since when have stiff sentences prevented crime? You might want to check out some writers and researchers on the area who will be able to illustrate that decades in jail has little preventative function. I do believe in visible punishment rather than ostracization (ie. in a penitentiary, probably the worse human invention)

As a start, I recommend Jack Katz.

I heard. Shocking. He was said to be the sole bread-earner for his family

Re: Cabby Killed

You raise a good point. And since I am not well-versed on the question you pose, I will do some homework before I stick my neck out on the subject.

Btw…what is visible punishment? Lashes?

And if writers and researchers like Katz have proven that decades in jail does nothing, which sounds reasonable because the person is simply put away from the public eye and only he/she and his/her family suffer the consequences, then perhaps monetary compensation would be more suitable…
