I cant do anything else in the morning until I brush my teeth. Until I have the brush in my hand, and toothpaste on it, I cant even open my mouth. If someone talks to me, I just nod my head.

I was taught same thing but it probably has to do something with food digestion/stomach activity during sleep (could be wrong). Now I rinse my mouth before breakfast and brush afterwards.

I normally brush my teeth after breakfast but have recently learnt that you should do it before as this helps to prevent dental erosion.

Also you should not brush your teeth for an hour after eating/drinking anything as acid can soften the enamel leading to dental erosion if it is then brushed straight away as the teeth have not had time to remineralise.
