CNET’s editors say that the call quality is inconsistent. Also the members rating for Lingo is an abysmal 3.2 with several very critical reviews, mostly on customer service and call quality. Check here to see for yourself
The only thing right now that makes Lingo better alternative than Vonage is the ability to call unlimited to UK. Personally, my other worry is that the COmpany may just go under, being a smaller player, compared to ATT and Vonage, and then we’d be without a phone service, atleast till we get another one. Also Vonage is called as the best alternative to regular phone line. The other thing is that pretty soon you will have big players like SBC and Verizon enter this market and will undercut the other players.
Faisal Bhai, I would still recommend it as I don't find any problems with call quality. The only problem I see is once or twice a week the phone goes dead. It could be my Cable connection acting up or it could be the Lingo device, I am not sure yet. Reboot the Lingo device and we are back on.
Their unlimited Western Europe was the selling point.
The people who rated it low for call quality probably have incompatible routers. The friend who recommended me was using a D-Link router and couldn't get it to work then moved to a better Motorola router and never had a problem. So, when he told me to get Lingo, he also recommended the Motorola router and so I didn't have to worry about it all too much.

For all those ppl, who makes call to pakistan. Please check our international rates (Vonage + Packet 8 + voice wing) none of these providers can match our rates anywhere in the world. Also for the tech freaks this is a good update for you, we use G729a codec which requires only 30 kbps upsteam unlike Vonage which requires at least 64 kbps up to make calls.
Well maybe not to you but its good for ppl in Pakistan cuz they dunt have good upstream
using a low bandwidth codec allows you to have a better quality of voice!
duh!
a. The vonage box has a web interface with which you can customize the box, including changing the IP address and/or change the settings from DHCP/PPoE/Dialup
b. It also let's your throttle down the badwidth used. I've tried turning the badwidth required to as low as 25 k and i could still converse.
Well I am not saying Vonage is bad. Its good, but it doesn't support customers in (PAKISTAN) where as Vonics supports them and can also ship devices anywhere in the world. :)
My bro in law wanted me try it out, rogers is giving that service too. Cool, I think I should give it a shot; although, it might only be in my parents use. Oh well, lets see.
