Re: British MP Mohammed Sarwar appointed governor of Punjab
ILR is Indefinite Leave to Remain - it allows you to live and work in the UK, without the rights of British citizens.
Bearing in mind that Pakistani citizens can vote in local and national elections in the UK, and be elected as MPs in the UK, the only thing you would lose out on is being able to get help from British Diplomats, Visa-Free travel to many countries, and being able to serve on a jury in the UK.
It’s actually the ultimate backup plan. If he still has ILR status, he could move back to the UK and get re-elected to his old position without having to wait for 5 years to get his British citizenship back.
