Generally the Pakistani community in the UK is the same - the parents want the financial benefits of England but dont want the kids to become westernised. Even the most liberal open-minded Pakistani parents in the UK would bully their daughters psychlogically and emotionallly if they decided to adopt some of the western values. They would never accept their daughters date and i think most people here would not as well. People will try to communicate the values to the children but some will just reject them.
It is very easy to condemn these parents for what they did and they do deserve every bit of it but how many of you will accept if your daughters decide to date, have a free life ?
I am not saying the parents can be justified for what they did but the reality is in most Pakistani homes such girls would be psycholgically bullied, beaten, pressured....
We put women in a very difficult position in our society - we make them the yardstick for what we measure our family honour upon. They are human, they too can make mistakes......but why do so many of us have problems accepting that?

^Her dad was doing that stuff himself.. Seems like it was one rule for him and another for the girls..
I actually know lots of parents nowadays who are ok with their sons and daughters seeing someone after they go to uni with the intention of marriage - IF they're muslim + desi..
I know many (actually most) who have also accepted their kids 'marrying out' in our circle but granted that's still rare in the wider desi community..

A few years ago there was a similar incident with a Sikh couple in Vancouver.
They actually hired a hitman in India to kill their daughter while she was vacationing in India because she wanted to marry someone else.

^There are many cases in Sikh community like this in England. Several cases of missing Sikh britons who went to India for trip, never to return.
