bringing cricket to North America

Maybe make Kabadi popular in North America?

Monday Night Kabadi, brought you by BUDD Light?

I think the major hurdle is that not many people are familiar with the sport and specially kids don't see it as a mainstream sport that they can play. If you involve kids where they grow up playing or watching the sport then down the road it can get popular. We are starting off with youth camp this year and there is already some indication of viable interest among the desi community. Hopefully it'll catch on.

20 overs game is too short. I think 40 overs game is quite reasonable. Takes anywhere from 6-8 hours. People in Pakistan don't watch Cricket because they have a lot of free time on hand. It's mainly because there is great enthusiasm towards it. They make time for it.

Ehsan bhai,

Sorry to disagree with you. If Sosa had kept on playing cricket, he would be the world's leading batsman. Look at what baseball batters do. They have a fantastic eyesight to be seeing that missile of a baseball coming at them at much over 100 mph. They hit it with bat a thirrd the size of cricket bat. Same goes for baseball fielders. They hardly ever miss a catch. If Gary Bonds were given a month's training in cricket by top class cricket coaches, betweeen him and Sosa they would just never get off the pitch.

Ehsan bhai, as I have been told, sadly, by many girls, the size does matter.

Arvind, baseball fielders all have "gloves". Thats one down.
Second, ball is coming off ground in cricket so it becomes hard to know where it will go after bounce. Thats 2nd down.

Third, how many "gora" players do you really see in baseball? Many if not most of them are of "Spanish" descent, its a mixed bag. That is third down.

How many runs do they really score with that "might", "height", "sight"? Last one down, I'd say :p

Edit: you said "Ehsan bhai, as I have been told, sadly, by many girls, the size does matter." there are many pills for people who believe that size matters :p

The International Cricket Council has announced that it will oversee the appointment of a CEO for the United States Cricket Association.

The news comes of the back of plans to organise a multi-national one-day tournament in the USA. The proceeds of the event would go towards furthering the development of the game in the country.

“There is no suggestion that cricket is trying to take on the major American team sports in their own back yard,” Malcolm Speed, the ICC’s chief executive, said in a statement. “There are already over 500 active cricket clubs in the USA and the aim of this project is to build on this solid foundation to help increase the reach of the sport. The plan is to focus on developing cricket as a successful niche sport in a substantial market.”

Earlier this month, the USA team won the Six Nations Challenge in the United Arab Emirates and so qualified for this September’s ICC Champions Trophy in England.

The USA has also been proposed as a possible venue to stage games during the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean.
