Sara - I used to think the same way as you that in order to pull off a gharara you have to be tall and thin...or at least tall. I always thought it would make short girls look shorter and stubby. For this reason, I decided to wear lehengas on both my wedding and valima. After I had already bought my wedding lehengas, I tried on a chiffon jamawar gharara in a boutique and my god was it flattering. It really depends on the fabric and cut. I honestly think the most flattering fabric for ghararas is chiffon jamawar...it's like a mix of the two. I now kinda wish I had gotten a gharara made for my wedding. Especially that Karma one.

I know this couple. They are so cute and the girl is an absolute sweetheart!
she had amazing taste in clothing, so did some of the guests and her photographer did a great job capturing their special moments.
also random about ghararas only being for tall slimmer women i think as long as you wear heels and you don't have a short torso you should be fine. if you do have a short torso go for a top that will elongate it. also Amisha Patel wore those all over the movie Gadar and we all she has her stumpy, chubby look now and then so if it suited her why not. also priety zinta in hero had a nice blue one...those girls i wouldn't call slim and tall.

omg Annie looks AWESOME. its funny i was just watching an interview of her (it was a really old one though-when shehzad roy's song came out) where she was saying she didnt want to get married just yet. is she wearing a gharara? makes me want to wear one. and with a shorter shirt too like hers ! im begining to get tired of these long shirts. but is annie's a sharara or a gharara?
