who is 'they'?
it wouldn't have taken 10 years and drones civilian casualties this many if Pakistan had been honest and really cooperated with the NATO/US forces in the hunt. Instead they chose to play a double game and are the primary reason why so many civilians died.
It would've been a lot easier had they sealed Pak-Afghan border so there wouldn't have been any crossing of borders but somebody was more interested in listening to mayor of Kabul.

How can you feel sad for justice done, for the death Usama Bin Laden who was responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent people? Is our world not a safer place today without the mastermind of 9/11 attacks? Should we not view this as a great stride forward in our fight against terrorism? As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton stated, “History will record that Bin Laden’s death came at a time of great movements toward freedom and democracy, at a time when the people across the Middle East and North Africa are rejecting the extremist narratives and charting a path of peaceful progress based on universal rights and aspirations. There is no better rebuke to Al-Qaida and its heinous ideology.”
Usama bin Laden is no longer a threat to America, our allies or to peace-loving Muslims, but Al- Qaeda remains a threat and we will continue our fight against them. Bin Laden’s death is only one part of our overall goal of disrupting, dismantling, and ultimately defeating Al-Qaeda and their violent allies like the TeT. Although the fight against Al Qaeda is far from over, this is a significant achievement in that fight in which the world can take comfort. His death does not mean we are leaving Afghanistan, nor does it change our commitment to providing a secure and stable environment for Afghans. We will continue to train Afghan security forces in accordance with the Afghan government until they are independently capable of protecting the great sovereign nation of Afghanistan. Our phased drawdown from Iraq in 2011 provides the perfect example how our plan to successfully withdraw from Afghanistan by 2014 will work. We remain committed to peace and stability throughout the region, and continue to work with those who, unlike Usama Bin Laden, desire peace and show a willingness to help create a better life for all.

the same country that desecrated the holy Quran as part of "harsh interrogation methods" now has so much respect for Islam that it gave the world's most wanted man a funeral and burial per the "Islamic traditions" just hours after his death.

we've been hearing the 'world is a safer place' nonsense from americans for a long time. when saddam was overthrown the world was a safer place. ofcourse this safer world has over 100,000 fewer Iraqies in it than it otherwise would have, but maybe accounting lives is a bit too literal when it comes to the question of safety.
we'll see how much safer the world is in time.
