If you are a muslim then you should know drinking is haram. Its a well established fact that intoxication whether it is caused by drinking alcohol or any other illicit drug hurts your health. Drinking is legal in the west but if you only knew the devastating effects it has on that society you will think twice before picking that bottle. It is the leading cause , again its the leading cause of violent deathts in america. Besides statistics released a few days ago show that 40 percent of deaths in car accidents are directly related to alcohol. It is still the leading cause of death due to liver cirrhosis( liver failure). Alcoholism runs heavoc with the socioeconomic fabric of a society.
Alcohol and other illicit drugs are mind altering substances. It takes u farther away from reality, impairs your judgment and can lead to irrational behaviors. One other important fact is that some people suffer from mental illnesses and they self medicate with alcohol and drugs not knowing they have an underlying illness.
So there is some sense to forbidding drinking in islam. I am not here to bash anyone my intention is purely educational.
