That's the whole point, to make sure your portfolio is immune or resistant to the current times.
Long term investment and returns.

So what do you, do professionally?
And here is my deal with mass manufactured books about what stocks to buy. Just the fact that they are mass manufactured and every Tom Dick Harry can buy them will skew the markets. Stupid hogwash.
Waisai bhi - the markets are way to complex now to be able to say buy stock and get rich. There are leverages to worry about, there is hedging... so much more then apply buy karo... and win.
I didn't answer ur first question eaeli3r. Am in Engg.
Re market is too complex NOW. I think market over the short term is ALWAYS complex and unpredictable. It is the VOLATILITY that provides OPPORTUNITY for a long term investor. As FO4 leveeaginv, that has always been there. If a company has too much debt, stay awaay. Who cares if an institution uses leverage to buy stocks. The valuation principles don't change.
As for hedge funds I assume that is what u refer to as hedging - what they do is not relevant to a long term investor.blet them be long short fund or leveraged fund or whatever. Who cares. As an individual investor. Fo us on the Financials of the company.
And as for protecting oneself asset allocation (oor diversified at ion as u called it) is 5he only free lunch.

Re: Book Review - 100 Best Stocks to Buy in 2016
For short term investing hedging may make sense. But for long term the best hedge is asset allocation. Does Ms. M agree?
asset allocation? mathlab diversification. You may be over simplifying it but yes Ms. M agrees.
There is a saying - keep it simple. Applies to investment.
How is it oversimplification. Set an asset allocation. Rebalance periodically. In the stock portion pick index funds low cost. And if you are into individual stock pickinv, set aside maybe 15 pct of stock related inv3stm3n5 to individual.stock. pick stocks that r underrepresented in market cap weighted iindex. Buy stocks with solid balance sheet that r out of favor temporarily But have good earnings power based on record
If most follow this simple.mantra - say Ommm at this point - they should be fine. Agreed Ms M? Just saybyes.

Market change at every moment. Book may not helpful but current news and political situation.
A gold book provides general guidelines.
Current news and political situation - Warren Buffett pays no attention to these.
IMO sometimes the news may drive stocks too low or high. To that xtent it helps a Co train investor to benefit.

That is a good sign. The index funds beat 80 pct of tively managed funds. So for most investors, for the stock portion if their portfolio, buying a Total market index fund is the way to go. But one international index fund also and ur stock portion is set.
