KARACHI, Pakistan –
A powerful bomb rocked the Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi late Friday, police said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the explosion was loud enough to be heard across much of the city.
Police officer Abdul Ghaffar said the blast was caused by a bomb.
A large cloud of smoke was coming from the site of the blast in a residential neighborhood in eastern Karachi, said Zafar Iqbal, a doctor.
Witnesses said police had cordoned off the area. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, has been the site of several terrorist attacks in recent years, as well as bouts of sectarian violence.
In June 2002, a suicide bomber blew up a truck in front of the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, killing 14 Pakistanis. The attack came a month after another suicide attack in the city that killed 11 French engineers.
PT, I have not been in karachi for ages. This crown plaza, what part of sharae faisal is it on. around teh PAF base, karsaaz? nursery..around jason trade center...further down by aisha bawani college? or closer to metropole
Fraudz I think it's Metropole whose main road leads to the Quaid-e-Azam Intl. Airport. This is the same building which came under attack in July and two people were killed. So far no casualities have been reported yet.

And you said you havent been to Karachi for ages???? Bhai itni places ka tu karachi waloon ko bhi nahe patah ho ga.
Kawish Crown Plaza is around the Baluch Colony bridge...not too far from Karsaz. This is the same building that suffered a bomb blast couple of years ago. The building is owned by Dawood Ibrahim, and these blasts are more of a business/political feud than anything else. The area is not close to any residential neighborhoods. There were no casualties, thankfully.
Thanks, the baloch colony bridge area is a business area. I believe DHL offices were there as well as numerous other firms. I agree it seems more of business fued, if it were terrorists they woukd have hit at a time when there were people around.

Jason Trade center is a corporate highrise.
and no I am not trying to map karachi but shahrae faisal is a very long road, which goes by several military locations, a few schools, colleges and various residential and commerical areas. Not having heard of the building before, I was trying to figure out where along this road was the building situated.
