Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

R.I.P. Bob Woolmer :( well miss u. and it pisses me off how some ppl in pakistan are being really snotty abt it

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

Bob picked up the team when it was in shambles after the loss to India. He was picked on by the ex-coach non stop. Yet he never said anything bad about them either. He did express frustration that he needed a little time to adjust he cant perform miracles.

The defeat to Ireland could not be termed as Bob's fault. A coach can merely prepare you, you still have to go out there and apply yourself. It was a greentop and out batsman got exposed.

The whole cricketing world is poorer today. Just listen to Bob's tv interviews. He always came across as humble and polite. He was one of the most sought after coaches and still had time to interact with his fans via his website. He wasnt a muslim himself but respected the religion of Pakistan cricket team, infact he went on record that the religion bonds the team togather.

Very sad and shocking news. May Allah give his family patience to deal with this loss.

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

the most amzing thing is that while people disagreed with his methods or whatever, not one really has said anything negative about him as a person. That is a very strong testament of Bob being a gentleman in the truest sense of the word.

In the sports world of today where loutish behavior is acceptable by top stars, gentlemen like him are like an inspiration and an reminder to all about what sportsmanship is all about. I am really sad to see him go, in his style, in his openness and in his accessibility he has set a high bar for the next coach.

There may be coaches with better winning records than him, but I look around and Bob was heads and shoulders above the current list in his sportsman spirit and him as a gantleman.

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

Shocking news for all the cricket fans & for the whole Pak nation as well
He was incrediable person May Allah bless his soul , Yesterday after losing the match from Ireland one of my friend was saying see yaar Woolmer bohat pershan lag raha hia... now I got headache after hearing this news

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

Kamran Abbasi writes:
My last exchange with Bob occurred before Pakistan’s match against Ireland. He was cautiously optimistic. I asked him whether Pakistan could win the cup. He said: “Inshallah, to quote the team.”

I then asked him if he would soon be compliant with the Urdu-only policy and he replied: “What sort of rubbish is that [policy] it was mainly instituted to allow those poor in English to express themselves now it has taken on a very different turn. I will have to brush up on my Urdu quickly - Gurrum Chai do chini!”

In many ways the skill of Bob Woolmer was wasted on Pakistan cricket and many millions of Pakistan cricket fans around the world are grateful to him for taking up the challenge.

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

A very sad day indeed....although I wasent keeping in touch with the world cup...and i wasent that much concerned about pakistan's performance in thw world cup...as the team wasent good enough to compete at world level...it needs a complete shake up...

anyways...after the loss to ireland...i found it amazing as inzi was attributing that to "qismat"...

i wasent saddened by pakistan's loss...but this news is extremely shocking...

may his soul rest in peace...

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

RIP Bob.

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

What a sad day for cricket. My condolence with his family and friends. He did his best what he could do in a country like Pakistan hit by favouritism, personal differences, large egos, selection frauds, scandles and miss management.

I just wish he had spent his last few years with some team who really wanted to get better, like Bangladesh or Kenya. All our zaleel players did on Saturday was the total opposite of what he had warned about. i.e. Not to repeat the South African tour mistakes.

Look what Pakistan all out on 132. All 10 wickets were catches. No bold, no LBW and no run outs. Only catch out. The same team was thrashed a month ago in a similar fashion in first test against Saffies.

Re: Bob Woolmer passes away at age 58

sad day for cricket ......

Bob Woolmer’s death stuns cricket world

A pall of gloom fell over the World Cup following the death of Bob Woolmer, the Pakistan coach, in hospital in Jamaica on Sunday, hours after he was found unconscious on the floor of his hotel room. He was 58.

Tributes poured in from across the cricketing world, where Woolmer was known as an innovative coach and a scholar of the game. The Pakistan team, already eliminated from the World Cup on Saturday, said it would play its final match, against Zimbabwe, on Wednesday as scheduled.
** “We’ve been speaking to the doctors and they think it is either stress or a heart attack,” Russell Woolmer, his son, told South African radio from Cape Town. “There was a lot of stress in his job and it may have been stress that caused it. We’re all very shocked and we don’t know what to do.” **
The news of Woolmer’s death was announced by Pervez Mir, Pakistan’s media manager, a couple of hours after it first became known that he had been taken ill. "Bob Woolmer has passed away. I am speaking from the hospital and all the team management is also at the hospital. Doctors have pronounced him dead. Bob has passed away and it is very shocking news to all of the team and the team management.
“Bob’s family and wife were informed by the management about his condition when he was brought to hospital”, Mir said, adding that Woolmer’s wife was on her way from South Africa.
Mir’s statement added that there would be a coroner’s inquest and, in keeping with Jamaican law, an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Woolmer, a diabetic, was found unconscious on his hotel-room floor at around 10.45am after team officials grew concerned that they had not seen him since the previous evening. Mir said he had blood on him and there was vomit on the walls.
Karl Angell, director of communication for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, said Woolmer was pronounced dead by doctors at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, where he had been rushed to, at 12.14pm on Sunday.
Woolmer’s death comes less than 24 hours after Pakistan were knocked out of the World Cup following their defeat by Ireland. After the match, Woolmer spoke of the pressures of coaching. “Doing it internationally, it takes a toll on you,” he said. "The endless travelling and the non-stop living out of hotels.
“I am deeply hurt and cannot tell you how it is going to affect me,” Woolmer told AFP late on Saturday after the Ireland defeat, saying he would answer more questions on email later in the week.
Mir said Pakistan would still play their final World Cup group match on Wednesday. “The Pakistan team will continue its participation in the tournament. We are due to play Zimbabwe and we will play that match,” Mir told AFP by telephone from Jamaica. “Obviously the boys are extremely sad, they are very distrurbed, they are shocked, but the boys have to play the match and they will.”
