Well, the third strong candidate actually does pull away votes. Like Ross Perot did in 1992.

True been mostly repulican presidents the past 26 years or so..but ...and correct me if wrong....
But hasn't congress been majority democrats until Bush/Cheney.
Also, I think Gore/Leiberman won popular vote? But lost in electoral votes?
So..... if they won popular vote..I think the religious prejudice argument doesn't hold up.
