LAHORE: Inzamamul Haq has got some cricket left in him and Pakistan need him badly at Test level. There are some reports that Inzamam’s dictatorial attitude was one of the cause of Pakistan’s abysmal performance during the recently concluded World Cup in West Indies. He is a one of the heroes of Pakistan and heroes should commended and not put to dust.
Ramiz Raja, a well-known name in world cricketing fraternity, echoed these views while talking to ‘Khaleej Times’ during the first one-dayer between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Zayed International Cricket Stadium here on Friday night. The former Pakistan captain said, **“Keeping in view the busy schedule ahead as Pakistan will face South Africa, India and Australia in Test series, Inzamam’s experience and presence is must in this young team. “He can deliver a lot at Test level and his services should be utilised properly.”
**Raja added, “Younis Khan’s refusal to lead Pakistan was a shock to me. I would have accepted this offer readily. “Different people react to criticisms and protests differently and only Younis can tell that why he opted out.” The younger brother of late Wasim Raja added, “Pakistan have taken a right step by appointing a young captain Shoaib Malik. He has been told to seek a culture change. “Pakistan need to change system and eradicate politics at team and board level. Only a strong and transparent system can herald a new era in Pakistan cricket.” Raja said, **“Teams don’t need coaches at this level. There should be some game analysts and coaching should be done prior to series at home."
**During the series you can’t temper with players techniques. It will muddle their thinking. The player should only concentrate on playing their natural games and winning. “In my opinion, after giving so much attention to coaching, the standard of cricket has gone down. “The teams like Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka need strong managers who know the in and outs of the game. Ex-players should be assigned these jobs. Captain should be given more powers,” he added.
