BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

bill o reilly...? :-| i dont think so queer.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

in that case, not everyone in india shares the RSS's thoughts. although almost no indian would attribute secularism to jinnah. reason is simple - you can not call for a division across religious lines and call yourself secular. jinnah's lifestyle and ideology might have been vastly drawn from the secular west, but "pakistan ka matlab kya - la ilaha .." is not a secular slogan of a secular leader. ironically, i am surprised the RSS is so picky about secularism. doesnt take much to tick off right wing monkeys anywhere..

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

Jinnah wanted a nation where Muslims were majority. He didnt mean Islam was the majority. He wanted a nation where Muslims the political, social group could be the majority. He didnt mean it in a religous sense. Not everyone will agree, but this is in line with his speech where he said that religoun is not the bussiness of the state. Explain this to your fellow Indians.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

i think this is gonna make him next PM. now after atal out of picture he is becomming moderate face of BJP.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

Exactly.. he is playing his cards well.. the rss wanted a young leadership to the party.. this gives him an oppertunity to resign and take the moral high ground and then promote somebody like arun jeytli to the party post..

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

he wanted a muslim majority nation. that pretty much ruins his chances at being a secularist. sorry.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

lol, how the hell does that qualify as secular thinking?

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

He didnt want a Islamic theocracy. He wanted a secular nation in which Muslim were the majority.. Like Turkey, only not as oppresive. I dont understand why this concet is so hard for you to understand... With your non Madrasah education I thought this would make some sense to you!

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

Is Turkey with its overwhelming Muslim Majority a Theocracy? Dont think soo...

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

:rotfl: true…with good reason:D

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

Advani has offended Indians in particular.

In fact many from RSS/BJP circle are supporting his views.
VHP, another wing of RSS calls him traitor.
The Communists, who favored Jinnah’ two nation theory have opposed him.
George Fernandez, convener of NDA says that Jinnah was secular, whereas Nehru was pseudo-secular.
Lalu Yadav, an exploiter of Muslim vote bank has openly supported Advani.
As per Congress party’ views Advani has lost his balance.

How Jinnah could be secular? Since 1935 onwards he was surrounded by Muslim fundamentalists, played the communal card and succeeded.
His speech of 11th ugust was mere eyewash for the Western countries. I doubt if he was addressing people of Pakistan in this historical speech.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

‘What was ‘Direct Action Plan’ of Jinnah?
How a man who played communal card can be secular?

Indian history books say that Jinnah threatened of a ‘Direct Action Plan’ if the demand of partition on religious grounds was not accepted. And a sample of ‘Direct Action Plan’ was shown at Noakhali, Oct 1946. Not much but some thousand Hindus were killed in that sample show.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

calling for dividing up a country along religious lines isnt secular, no manner however you package it. sorry.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

You are sooo wrong. One of the biggest opponent of Jinnah and his demand for partition was jamat-e-Islami. You can look at history and that will prove it to you. Nonetheless, Pakistan is a country and has been a country for more than 50 years; Jinnah was responsible for making Pakistan and he has been dead for more than 50 years. As i said before, Indians have hard time just accepting Pakistan. Proves why Jinnah was asking for a separate homeland.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

If I blame somebody for killing my brother twenty years back and continue to do so, that does not mean that I haven't accepted my brother's death.

This is how the partition is seen in India. Indians continue to blame Jinnah, but it is not as if (contrary to what you may have been told) people haven't accepted Pakistan or want to reunite again. Heck, I remember watching news on TV more than 10 years back where Advani in a public speech at a BJP meeting said that India and Pak can never unite and there can never be an 'akhand bharat' again. On questioning he does say that a confederation is possible, but I don't know if a 'confederation' translates well in Urdu.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

He divided it amongst the Hindu society and Muslims society. To seperate social political groups. He didnt divide them based on them belonging to Islam or Hinduism… Your just confused. There is no packaging involved, Jinnah was secularist at heart, Indian propaganda doesnt allow you to think outside the box.

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

I think Anjaan needs to throw away is Indian History textbooks and open up some non bias books on the subject:)

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

I believe it was Gandhi who played the communal card. At the end of ww2, Otoman empire was being eaten up tHE VICTORS. There was a strong grassroots movement for the restoration of the Calipha. Gandhi supported two mullah brothers, forget their names, to bring Muslims and Hindus closer by supporting a Muslim religous issue such as this. Jinnah was opposed to this because he felt that this was mixing politcs with religion and would only hurt the party.
Also, according to most historians, including the people who knew him, Jinnah was nationalist for most of his political career. He had no intention of partitioning the Subcontinent. Infact, they say Partition wasnt even his idea.
Jinnah and his party werent completely in fair of partition even up until 1946 with the Cabinet Mission. The Dialogue broke down after Nehru who accepted the plan initially decided to back out. The rest is history…
Now befoe you Indians start talking why dont you get your noses out of your biased Indian text books and pick up a real book!

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

The Reason why Jinnah choose to leave the Congress? Because he didnt believe in agitation, the way the Congress was… Another interesting quote BTW..
http://www.indhistory.com/partition-independence.html
Indian Independence
Between 1940 and 1942, the Congress launched two abortive agitations against the British, and 60,000 Congress members were arrested, including Gandhi and Nehru. Unlike the uncooperative and belligerent Congress, the Muslim League supported the British during World War II. Belated but perhaps sincere British attempts to accommodate the demands of the two rival parties, while preserving the unitary state in India, seemed unacceptable to both as they alternately rejected whatever proposal was put forward during the war years. As a result, a three-way impasse settled in: the Congress and the Muslim League doubted British motives in handing over power to Indians, while the British struggled to retain some hold on India while offering to give greater autonomy.

The Congress wasted precious time denouncing the British rather than allaying Muslim fears during the highly charged election campaign of 1946. Even the more mature Congress leaders, especially Gandhi and Nehru, failed to see how genuinely afraid the Muslims were and how exhausted and weak the British had become in the aftermath of the war. When it appeared that the Congress had no desire to share power with the Muslim League at the center, Jinnah declared August 16, 1946, Direct Action Day, which brought communal rioting and massacre in many places in the north. Partition seemed preferable to civil war. On June 3, 1947, Viscount Louis Mountbatten, the viceroy (1947) and governor-general (1947-48), announced plans for partition of the British Indian Empire into the nations of India and Pakistan, which itself was divided into east and west wings on either side of India. At midnight, on August 15, 1947, India strode to freedom amidst ecstatic shouting of “Jai Hind” , when Nehru delivered a memorable and moving speech on India’s “tryst with destiny.”

Re: BJP prez Advani resigns for praising Jinnah

Do Muslims blame Jinnah for communal rioting and massacre in many places in the north for his call of ‘Direct Action Day’ August 16, 1946?
