Hi guys
This topic is so interesting....and scary!
Thanks for sharing your stories......
May everyone have a smooth delivery inshallah!
mehnazQ, your story made me laugh out load (in my office), as well as made me cry… It’s a phenomenal story…But you never mentioned what happened to your dad after that. I do hope he, too, came out victorious.
Re: Birth Stories

Total duration of labour 3 hours
Pain relief breathing techniques, warm bath and entonox
I had planned to do a homebirth for my 3rd child; the other two were under the age of four at that time.
That day was my due date; I awoke with slight uneasiness at 1:00 am, I went to the toilet and started panicking after seeing that there was blood stains below. I woke my husband up and told him that there was a problem and to take me to hospital. I quickly started packing my bag while hubby was explaining the urgency to my midwife over the phone, (as she had explained to do earlier, if anything out of the ordinary should happen), however, she told us to stay at home and that she’ll be over within a few minutes.
It was my favourite midwife Natalie who’d been with me during the whole pregnancy and was very supportive.
Within fifteen minutes she was at our place, in her sports car. The bleeding had stopped and there was a blunt period like pain in my abdomen so she stayed with us until 3:30 am, she assessed me and concluded that there would be a delay in my labour before the following shift started, she left us reassuring that someone else would come by.
The moment she went the contractions started becoming strong and regular. It was 5:30 and I laid down in a warm bath that my hubby had prepared for me and had sat in to two very strong contractions there, I told my hubby to call the midwife back as I was sure the birth was progressing. He did so, I went to the bedroom, got dressed ready for labour and as I was getting dressed felt the urge to push, I actually gave a slight push and I felt that my water broke but when I looked down it was in fact blood. My midwife came while I was in the en-suit taking another contraction in the standing position. To bear the pain it helped a lot to stand and walk.
Anyway, my midwife arrived in good time and she was quite concerned to see blood, but she put on a brave face, she made me lay down and she started to monitor the baby’s heartbeat, it was slightly erratic but otherwise fine. Because of the bleeding she called paramedics but the baby was coming dangerously fast. I came on to entonox at this point.
She wanted to slow down the speed of the birth so she made me lay on my side, but after a while in this position, when I was between contractions the baby’s heart rate suddenly fell, so she changed the plan and told me to push through without the contraction. In two pushes the baby came out. It was 6:55, and as the baby was being cleaned the paramedics arrived as well.
Baby was a cold and blue 6lbs and otherwise completely well Alhamdulilah. When my other kids woke up in the morning they came over to see the new baby and I saw a delight and sense of amazement on their tiny faces. I was happy. The Midwife gave the baby a bath, I was given injections for the bleeding (to slow it down) and they made me vomit, it went everywhere, clothes and body. I had to get up to take a quick shower. I put the laundry into the washing machine with the energy I had left and had a hearty English breakfast prepared by my hubby.

Re: Birth Stories
with my 1st one .
i went to doc's visit a week b4 due date.she said any signs u'll deliver next week?i said"nope"she said lets chk n said"u r already 2 cm dilated"n i was whaat?
same evening after 6pm started feeling cramps.by 2am i was really uncomfortable but still wasn't having real contractions.i couldn't sleep, chatted online, took warm bath but no luck.by 4pm my contractions were 2-3 mins apart.i woke hubby up n said i couldn't take it anymore.he thought i was imagining it just coz the doc said i was already 2 cm dilated.he went back to sleep.by 6am i was all exhausted.he finally woke up.we were at hospital at 7am in the morning.the doc looked at me n said u look just fine.r u sure u r having contractions?she hooked me up n then after seeing contractions examined me.she started screaming"shes 8cm dilated.arrange for a room quick"all the nurses whispered as i walked by "8cm n 1st child"they broke my water in half an hour.within mins i was ready to push.but then i lost the urge to push.So pushing thing took all 3 hrs n my child was born at 11am.i took no medicine.the doc n nurses kept saying how brave i was n said to my hubby not to delay next time or we'll hav a baby in car.lol.
Next child
i went to doc's vist at 36 week.she said i was 3cm dilated.i got panicked.i didn't want a premie.my hubby was out of town.i started relaxing myself more.due date came n passed n i was still 3cm dilated.a week after due date they gav me final date for induction.no contractions.two days b4 induction date i woke up with bleeding.no baby movement at all.i called the nurse line at my doc's office.she said if i don't feel any contraction for some more time i might drop by hospital for chkup.i cleaned up,packed my stuff n we went for the hospital after like 1.5 hr.on the way hubby suggested may b i should eat sumething.i thought it might move the baby.everyone stared at me as i walked in the resturaunt.after eating n on way to hospital i felt stomach pain but no baby movement.i kept worrying.reaching there the nurse hooked me up to machine n said the abdominal pain was infact the contractions.the baby started to move too.i thought now they might send me back home.doc came chked n said i was 6cm so they'll admit me n break my water to speed up the process.by the time they took me to other room my contractions got almost 6 mins apart.the doc said"u r still smiling.amazing"she said she'll chk another patient n be back to break my water shortly.meanwhile i got hungry again so hubby n i went to the cafe to get some snack.walking got harder.by the time we came back from the cafe i could walk no further.the nurse hooked me up to machine again.she left the room n rightaway I screamed to my hubby that i was pushing.he pressed the emergency call button.the nurse n doc came running n they chked n said"u r 10 cm now"they didn't need to break my water.n then same thing i lost all the urge for pushing.i kept pushing the baby in instead of out.after an hr or so i gathered some courage n finally gav birth at 7:45pm.the baby was 8.5 lbs,23 inches long n soo white.couldn't believe it was mine lol
hi guys, very interesting to read...! mashala, congrats to all of u.

Re: Birth Stories
^^ wht? thats just plain rubbish... nothing comes out because they give u some sort of treatment( i dont knw wht kind of) to clean it beforehand
Re: Birth Stories
You know I was so worried about this that the afterbirth (placenta) wouldnt come out and I ended up in the OR to get it out, they had to give me a D&C. My first son was born "explosively", I went from 5cm to giving birth in about 20 minutes. But then the whole placenta thing happened. I was doing the same thing with my 2nd son, it actually delayed his birth but he finally came out. But I couldnt do the placenta and the doc was getting ready to wheel me in to the OR again when a nurse took my hand and told me "Look at me...I want you to push like you have to poop. I promise you that you will not poop. You will get this placenta out. Trust me." So I did and it did.
Sometimes, poop actually does come out but it isnt all too common. And if it does, it goes right into the pan thats there catching all of the "other stuff" - amniotic fluid, blood and clots etc etc. It aint pretty in that pan no matter whether you poop or not lol!! And the docs and nurses rarely look at it, they remove the pan and its just another day, just another delivery as far as they're concerned.

Citrine, it used to be common to give women in labor an enema upon arrival at the hospital. After more than a handful of babies splashed into toilets or bedpans as a result of the enema, the practice was discontinued (in USA anyway).
Re: Birth Stories
oh k....ii dont knw about it
These stories are amazing.
I've heard people say the actual delivery is not so bad.....but when they stitch u up it hurts most as the drugs are out of your system by then...
whats peoples view on that?
the thought freaks me out!
Re: Birth Stories
With my first one, there was no time for drugs, all I got was a half-dose of Nubain which helped a bit. I got to hospital, they checked me, I was 5cm (halfway there) so the docs left the room. 15 minutes later, out he came, the resident almost didnt get there in time lol. He was born so quickly that I did indeed tear and this idiot intern started stitching me up with no numbing agents, just lalala lets sew her up! On the 3rd poke of the needle, I said, hang on here...I want drugs. Intern was like "oh, sorry"...what a jerk. Anyway, they had to wheel me off to the OR to get the placenta out so I grabbed that beautiful gas mask llike a lifeline lol!

I had no pain killers/epidural in my first one. It all turned out fine. In fact I did real well in terms of recovery!

Yes it's normal for all that to happen but don't feel upset by it. Doctors and nurses are used to all of this.
Remember that childbirth is the most natural thing in the world. And for years these things have been happening and continue to happen. You cannot change laws of nature so there's no use trying to be sophisticated about it here :D
