Deadly Bird Flu Detected in Pakistan
KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) – Pakistan has detected the bird flu that has killed at least seven people across Asia among chicken flocks in a southern province, a senior official said Monday.

Manzoor Panwar, minister for livestock in Sindh province, said that according to initial estimates, blu flu has been detected among 10 to 25 percent of chickens in the province.

“We have started providing vaccines to all poultry in Sindh to prevent further outbreaks and have told affected farms to destroy all their infected chickens,” Panwar told The Associated Press.

Pakistan is the first country in South Asia to have detected the bird flu. The seven countries to have reported outbreaks are in Southeast and East Asia. It has killed six people in Vietnam and at least one person in neighboring Thailand.

Its spread has forced governments to cull chicken flocks in a desperate bid to contain the disease.

The World Health Organization on Monday called on the global scientific community to find a cure, amid concern from health officials it may mutate into a form that can be transmitted from person to person, triggering the next human flu pandemic.

it's been around in pak since NOV and only now the authorities thought it was time to let the public know...no limit to the carelessness of the Pakistani.
theyve been saying that the version of the virus out here is not deadly for humans...wonder if that's just to make sure the poultry industry doesnt collapse...
I wonder by the way why all these deadly viruses are emerging from the far east...i guess their habits of eating the uneatables like dogs, civet cats, raw monkey brains, snakes etc is having its toll...

Haris I would be more worried about how it reached Pak from those far east countires. And what steps are being taken to ensure that its curbed. Its not deadly to humans, but would really want to take a chance and eat it anyway?
