So basically she should be asked to shut up because #1, she is a woman, #2, she is a lesbian. Have any of your guys even bothered to read her book? No wonder the current (she calls it “today”) state of Islam is that you can’t be serious for the following reasons:
- Your Shalwar is not above your ankles
- You don’t shave your pubic hair 12th of every Islamic month
- You say Asalama-o-Lakum to fellow Muslims, how dare you
- You don’t believe that Abdul Atta was a martyr
- You don’t believe in 72 virgins
You can see that AK47 without realizing puts his AK47 right on his forehead and shots himself by calling her a Shyt, not realizing that Irshad is derived from one of Allah’s names. He, in essence, is calling Allah a Shyt, and he will get away with it, because of years of brainwashing he has received by his neighborhood Molvi. That, in a nutshell is the level of Muslims today. And Ms. Manji is challenging it. If a religion tells a group of people (e.g., Homosexuals, Jews) that they are misfits, it presents its ass on a platter to them. Learn to take it.
Now let’s hear, which of the points she has made are not valid?
Islam is like Pollack’s painting. One can view it from various perspectives. No one is necessarily right, or wrong. Only different. If you believe that you have to have a dick to critique Pollack’s paintings, then Ijtihad is perhaps not for you. Your issues are way to severe (and serious) than needing a reformation.

Why is it that in Christianity, fundamentalists like Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, Graham, etc are morons, but in Islam 95% are fundamentalists and the rest are morons?

It wasn't my view of Muslims or Islam that I was implying, but of Muslims. I thought it was universally accepted that a true Muslim is a fundamentalist? Maybe 95% is a little high, then what is it? Why I see varying opinions on this board, very few Muslims will say they do not follow the fundamentalist view of Islam. I f they do, they are shouted down by the vocal defenders of Islam as morons. Demeaned as deranged dykes. Any interpretation outside of the historical literal translation is an innovation.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a correction to the expression “moderate Islam” of his Australian counterpart John Howard whom he met on Tuesday, April 26.
According to information received, Howard spoke at a dinner held in his honor where he said, “One of the factors that will block the path of terrorism is the formation of democracy in moderate Islamic countries like Indonesia and Turkey.” Upon this, Erdogan taking the floor corrected: “After the September 11 attacks, the expression, ‘moderate Islam’ that is widely being used is leading to different interpretations. There is no need to put a different adjective before or after the word ‘Islam’. Islam means peace. It rejects all kinds of excessiveness.” Howard then noted that he had meant “true Islam”.

however the difference is in what one thinks can or should be interpreted.
As I had said earlier there are things that are a bit confusing to many people and while some may want to just take the literal translation, others may think that the literal translation is not conveying the right message e.g. in terms of interest based financing.
However there are things that are stated pretty clearly and to interpret those is pushing it. islam is not the only religion that prohinits homosexuality, nor is the only one with dietary laws. Can someone make an argument that health concerns with pork are not applicable anymore (or as much) and thus change it?
Discussion is fine, but just because others may not agree with someone’s efforts to “interpret” everything, does not make them extremists. It just means that they differ in their views of what is open to interpretation and what is not.
I mean someone cant some along and say that Jesus is not the lord, but Mickey Mouse is, and say that oh just because you dont agree with their views you are backwards? and just because You say that this person is misguided or wrong does not make you an extremist.
