Set in 14 acres of land on the edge of Lahore, the bungalow will have everything an aspiring Pakistani leader needs: a helipad, bombproof walls and vast lawns that can accommodate 10,000 people for giant election rallies.
Opponents have seized on its cost, rumoured to be 5billion rupees (£32m), saying it represents the worst excesses of the country’s political elite.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who at 24 is still too young to stand in parliamentary elections expected in May, is due to visit the site of the unfinished house on Saturday with his father, President Asif Ali Zardari, for an inauguration ceremony.
It has been lampooned variously as a retirement home for Mr Zardari or the ultimate bachelor pad for his son, equipped with swimming pools and fitted out by international designers.
Imran Khan, the former cricketer who has put tackling corruption at the heart of his campaign to become prime minister, said the lavish mansion typified the old-style politics that he was trying to end.
“It shows they have complete contempt for the people of Pakistan,” he said. “They don’t care what anyone thinks even with elections soon.
“The main parties are both the same. They will throw money around to buy votes, buying up media advertising, and think their behaviour does not matter.”
Bilawal House is expected to be completed next month and has been built with reinforced, bomb-proof concrete. It will include offices for party workers as well as at least six bedrooms, acting as what one political insider described as a “hub” for the elections.
Bilawal was named as co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party along with his father when Mrs Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide attack in 2007.
He has moved into the spotlight in the past year and is considered by many to be a more reliable vote winner than his father, who was only able to return from exile with his wife when corruption investigations were dropped as part of a general amnesty.
**Others within the party believe the lack of time he has spent in Pakistan and his hesitant Urdu underscore the way the Bhutto dynasty has lost touch with ordinary people.

Naveed Chaudhry, a senior PPP leader in Lahore, said details of the house had been exaggerated by political opponents. He added that construction costs were no more than £3.5m.
“The land is not as expensive as people think and it really is no different to what the president has in Islamabad or Karachi,” he said, adding that all the costs were borne by Mr Zardari.

He bought that house from his mehnat ki kamai (obviously you will read it as chanda khoor) while Zardari got this as gift on the eve of the elections says much about his credibility

I dont support PTI or N or PPP but it really HURTS hearing from senior ppl like you trying to justify the corrupt practices of one person. Did you ever read about the US standing committee’s report on banking that revolved around two test cases one of them was mr. zardari..
No wonder it was a generation like yours who sow’ed the seeds for the days to come and we are bearing the brunt of it..

LAHORE - A bomb-proof state-of-the art Bilawal House, spreading over 126 kanals of land in Bahria Town Lahore, is almost complete and awaiting the advent of its occupant, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is expected to set his foot on the new house on coming Saturday alongwith his father, President Asif Ali Zardari.
Constructed under the supervision of able engineers of property tycoon, Malik Riaz, it is a fort-like purpose-built building with spacious lawns, conference rooms, staterooms, bed rooms and offices. “It is a resident-cum office building also housing Secretariat of the party Chairman who would be using the building for his political activities”, said a PPP source who visited the place a few days back.
It may be recalled here that immediately after his release in 2004, Asif Ali Zardari had announced to build a Bilawal House in Lahore on the pattern of one in Karachi. Initially, it was set up in a rented house near old airport (in 2005), but later shifted to another building in Model Town. The latter one did not exit after two years.
Neither Bilawal nor Benazir Bhutto ever visited the two houses as they were in exile during the period.
Completed at a cost of around Rs 5 billion, the house also has a helipad and airstrip for landing of small planes. The boundary wall, having thickness of 30 inches, has been built using concrete and steel material to make it bomb-proof.
A three-layer security system has been provided to ensure fool proof security for the residents. A bunker and basement constructions are also there for security purposes. It also houses offices for Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal, Faryal Talpur and their personal staff.
The residential compartment comprises six bedrooms and an equal number of drawing rooms. There are reports that Malik Riaz would present this house as gift to Bilawal Bhutto to strengthen his friendship with the Zardari family.
The house has been completed in a record period of eight months which is too short a time for such a big building perfect in all respects. As the place has the capacity of accomodating around 10,000 people, Bilawal may use it for addressing party workers and other meetings. As President Zardari is expected not to indulge in politicking because of court verdicts, Bilawal would be supervising party’s election campaign in Punjab while sitting here.
President Zardari is expected to arrive in Lahore for a three-day trip on Saturday from Karachi.
He is also scheduled to meet PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif in Raiwind to condole the death of his brother Abbas Sharif.

I guess they know how much the ppl of Pakistan "love" them, they had to build a bomb proof castle to accept that love.
Zardari and the president of Sri Lanka are the same....building castles without caring about what is happening to the ppl of the land!

Oh I heard about this just yesterday and was wanting to see pictures...if any..!
I also heard that the residents of Bahria town are not happy at all..but then who cares about them...:(
