Budhism spread like most religions did…by tribal leaders, kings or emporers accepting the faith and making it a state religion. Often at pain of death for not following it.
Buddhism may have pasifistic traits, but these always take a back seat to real world concerns: sometimes even war is just and neccessary, a fact pascifists can’t come to terms with.
Further, Buddhism (or any eastern religion) is not immune from chauvanism…which is the true root cause of violence. Thailand is a good example of this…
