if I do need to give some… then uhhhh… I cry??? Nah, I would just ask the professor or TA if I could hand it in a little later because I was really busy w. a lot of stuff. They usually agree to that request.

Haha :D I know someone who did the exact same thing too. He also added in a bit of spice by including a car accident :p

nah,, at my uni they always asked for a medical certificate...
but I had a gun of a friend,, who was so good at acting,,, that he went to a psychiatrist and spoke to him about depression and thinking about suicide,, and all this stuff,,,
He got the whole semester off! and kept having free counselling for the whole year!
apart from that,,, we have our khuda-tars doctors,,, where you just have to go and tell them,, hay I need a medical certificate to resit the test cos I really stuffed up and i think i,ll fail... OR to get an extension for a due assignment.
^Perhaps we need to change the desi students mindset of looking for the easy way out to showing the realities of the world and why a good solid education is important in life.

This last semester I was lecturing a third year business course and one Indian girl had the midterm deferred for an apparent "illness" and then the final deferred for a "wedding" to go to in India.
Another Pakistani girl missed the midterm and I allowed her to write a higher weighted final after which she came to my office and started crying!!! that she didn't do all that well...
