Re: Bengali Culture
^ Muslims stayed backward to preserve their culture and religion, not sure how that translates in current days.
And even now, with respect to all other minority, their progress is slowest. Every other minority is better than Hindus in HDI except Indian Muslims :)

As far as Indian Muslims are concerned, I am not sure. I was talking of the Bangladesh of today.

Bangladeshi are doing good I think. I was speaking to my Bengali collegue and he was saying that it looks that after another decade West Bengal will lag behind Bangladesh. They are too hard on their hardliners and developing fine.

I am sure the Bangladeshi Hindus are doing as good because they were traditionally ahead and almost all of them have migrated to Indian in 1971.
Re: Bengali Culture
Textiles too...many factories from Pakistan have moved there. You see more Bangladeshi clothes in foreign countries as compared to Pakistani.
Bangladesh is the second biggest exporter of clothing in the world after China.. so yeah you'll see more of their clothes in stores than almost everyone else :D
If only the two political parties could stop their constant bickering things would be even better.. The Gov clamps down hard on religious fanatics and terrorists (which they obviously should) but is also very intolerant of criticism from journalists etc. It's a shame because the current prime minister has actually done a brilliant job with the economy (have to appreciate what's been done in regards to womens employment, they make up the bulk of the workers in the garment factories)..
