Hi Dwindle, as far as I am aware , this is biddah to dissolve quranic verses in water and drinking it .. there is authentic evidence of the Prophet SAW doing dum by reciting a surah and blowing directly over the body or blowing over the hand and rub the hand lightly all over the body .
Other then these two manners , there was none other. for small kids who couldnt recite Quran, water was used on which quranic verse would be read and blown on and given to the child.
