As we shall respect the Islamic religion and its principles, we shall also hope that one day it will get to see these events with different eyes, and understand that they are not about revealing "naked legs and arms", but instead, promoting goodwill among people of different creeds, religions and colors.

Cheers to Neelam and to "world peace"!

I fail to understand how participating in this contest 'promotes goodwill among people of different creeds, religions and colors'. I doubt these girls whoever are participating in the contest really give a damn about anything except getting the title, why else would they be there in the first place? And isn't it about the 'good looking' one rather than all the abstract concepts mentioned above?

She should be able to do whatever she wants to. It’s her life.
In my opinion, she is nothing close to beauty. :nono1:

This reminds me of that muslim comediene Shazia Mirza who made the headlines last year. Everybody was on here saying how great it was and what a breakthrough, but when I finally saw her in action she was so dire it was obvious that once the novelty factor wore off she'd sink like a stone.

Similar here in that by beauty contest standards this girl hasn't got a hope unless she's looked on favourably because she's Miss Pakistan. It's embarassing to be honest.

Pageant Bans “Miss Pakistan”

ORGANISERS disqualified a woman from a beauty pageant in Tokyo after Pakistani officials objected to her representing the country, saying participation in the contest denigrated Islam and brought shame to Pakistan, officials said.

Pakistani authorities told contest officials to prohibit Neelum Noorani from participating in the Miss International competition scheduled to start tomorrow, Pakistan’s Culture Secretary Tariq Janjua said.
Janjua said the 21-year-old woman had falsely identified herself as Miss Pakistan.

Beauty pageants are prohibited in Pakistan, an overwhelmingly Muslim country.

In Tokyo, a spokesman for the International Culture Association hosting the competition said he was unaware that Pakistan had not formally offered a candidate and assumed her candidacy was valid until they were contacted by Pakistani officials.

Spokesman Satoshi Tabuchi said Noorani suddenly pulled out of the pageant after press reports of her participation surfaced in Pakistan over the weekend. He said contest organisers had disqualified her in any case.

Noorani could not be immediately reached for comment and pageant officials said she had checked out of her Tokyo hotel room.

The news brought a mixed reaction from Pakistanis, who have never witnessed a pageant held in their country.

“She (Noorani) can participate in her private capacity. She should not use Pakistan’s name,” said Mohammad Sharif Hazarvi, a senior member from the radical Islamic group, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) party.

Meanwhile, other Pakistanis said they saw no problem with a woman representing Pakistan as a contestant.

“I don’t think the government should have stopped it,” said a video rental store owner who gave his name only as Amir

I think when she returns back to Pak someone is gonna wack her...

There is a dintinct difference between controlling woman and cultural boundries.. people even control woman in so-called free societies.. even men have to obey for the proper funtioning of a society.. getting emotional at every instance and every episode and naming it freedom of woman is going beyond rational thinking.. we live in a society and with our actions we have to take care if others are hurt .. and in that process we sometimes we have to make some sacrifices.. and do things we dont like at that moment.. but if we see deeper every person in the world who shares withany soociety gives sacrifices..we sacrifice for our family, friends or even for strangers.. people who think they dont have to care about society are those who think they are better apes than their parents!
.. a vast majority of woman in Pakistani society would never go for these pageant shows where one of the important criteria is showing body parts.. therefore in Pakistani society leaving alone few most dont like to see woman displaying their bodies for some score system... dont know how many people in Pakistan would like to see their family in that competition.. woman should try to get more rights in field of education, health and social justice than this disgraceful competitions..

As much as I disagree with the concepts of the "halwe khaane wale" Maulvis in Pakistan, I don't think this is about controlling women. However I don't see it as a positive sign, when Pakistani or other Muslim women start participating in those kind of contests representing their country.

Just my 2 cents.

.. chimps are not that backward species to let she-apes pose and they merit them on their body parts!

I knew some people would object to my writing, though I respect your opinions but my anger is towards so called 'unfairness' when it comes to certain rules set 'only' for females of pakistan. Why do we forget that men of pakistan have to obey these rules too, why do we find it shameful when a female is competing in a beauty show or a sport event and not when it concerns men respresenting Pakistan. Mullah are just keen on giving fatwas to females and ignoring men on same issues...I can give examples of men sport teams not being totally islamic and un-shameful when visiting abroad or men talking part on sport events and wearing un-islamic clothings like a brief short tsk tskkkk...

I think this beauty contest is harmless, more un-morals things happen in pakistan uncover, this girl respesenting a beauty contest is not even an underline worth...well anyway who am I to say this.

just my 2 'anney'

I know to ur so-called Imam the whole population of Pakistan is non-muslim!

This is an Indian ploy to defame Pakistan.

She cant be pakistani. How can she be pakistani. She doesn’t look Pakistani and why the hell would a Pak pose with an israeli, ever thought about it and what the HELL is she grinning about! grrRR this is getting too personal.

I dont know, but the whole affair smacks of a conspiracy against Pakistan IMO. :disgust:

Once again

a pakistani can do what he/ahe wants. there is a very famous US based Pakistani journalist/poet/artist who is gay. that is his business. he can do what he wants.

this lady can go do what she wants as long as she is not officially representing a country which does not recognize her.

If we want to send a contestant, sure..have a real competition. not keh, har aik moonh utha kar chaa ja raha hai.

I mean this is like a publicity stunt for the chic and soons he will be either in bollywood or some third rate movie in Hollywood. good time to get a book deal and some time on major networks to promote that.

That's right. Check the sports forum, there's a thread about Carla Khan being denied the opportunity to represent pakistan because she lives abroad. If that's the case, then why should this Neelum jump on the bandwagon. They should enter Carla Khan instead, she'd have a better chance of winning!
