Basant

What's a "Pakistani identity" for you?

I recall that during my days in KSA ppl would drive like idiots after football matches honkoing horns, speeding..and a few ppl died in car accidents every time.

The fact that people died had nothing to do with football, but how people celebrated, surely u can not ban a sport.

now as far as a cultural event goes, unless it is directly against some religious teaching, what is the big deal. arabs take part in their cultural stuff, which existed from before Islam was revealed.. you know the tents in the desert, traditional dances with swords and what nots..why is that okay?

Thats because in Holland, the emphasis is not on celebrating Hindu festivals. In Holland, and the West in general, we do not have Muslim representatives who are traitors. In west we protect our identity and mostly stick to our roots (Islam). It is very good Zakat system is doing well there. May Allah make it even better. This is what I am crying about, that in Pakistan our direction is wrong. All our emphasis is on everything un Islamic.
another correction: it isn't the Muslims here who have built this 'Zakat'-system here....but it something from the Dutch community/society

Non-Muslims pay Zakat (2.5%)?

Things haven't changed much after you left KSA, people in GCC still do that.

I don't recall anyone okaying the Arab dance with swords here..., and why is it that Pakistani's are compared with Arabs?

As for K-2, flying kites = basant. If you guys think the name is inapproriate, then we can change the name cant we? Name it whatever you want, and on that day we can fly kites, all we want? How does that sound?
And i thought "pathang bazi" is the closest to "flying kites"....

Is that the only thing that ppl do on basant?? kite flying?

people wearing yellow is just a "coincidence"?

Yeah, wearing yellow puts them out of the circle of Islam. Even if it does, whats it to you? They will be accountable for your own actions. People like Islamabad will be accountable for their own actions, and it includes issuing death threats and name calling.

or maybe one should wear yellow when flying kites (kite flying uniform), which according to you is basant, right?

what’s it to me? well I don’t want to be punished because of what they do while I’m just ignoring them.

I know I am going to be accountable if I ignore them and not inform them of what they are doing which is wrong, according to my understanding of the religion that they claim to follow.

My intention is not to force you or the likes of you to change their unIslamic ways, I can only pray and hope that you are guided to the right path and at the same time, save myself from getting punished for not informing you.

Who are you to judge if I am unislamic or not? So you can take your judgements, and shove them. Btw, you think I would wear yellow if I fly a kite? Are you on crack? AQ kaheen tu to nahee multiple nicks use kar raha ;)

^
I did not see anyone making fatwaas against it either.. and thats the point.

i dont see arabs passing fatwas that the tradition is of pagan arabs and thus should be discontinued, whereas in our case anything that existed in the local culture gets fatwaas against it.

Lets compare apples to apples. if i recall correctly, The prophet did not have issues with arabs following their traditional culture stuff as long as it was not contrary to the religious teachings. his welcome to medina is one example.

^^ spock I think you are just wasting time, the next thing you know is they will be talkin about Junoon which i will not be able to take :nono1:

Why would somebody discuss Arabs on Pakistan Affairs?

There are Arabs who do criticize those dances, maybe you should try places other than Gupshup.

well, there are a lot of cultural traditions that are contrary to the Islamic teachings, which people celebrating Basant engage in.

Only Allah swt can Judge. From Islam I learnt the do's and don'ts, and based on my limited understanding of Islam I try to identify the do's and don'ts, and I have no doubts that celebrating Basant comes under the "don'ts" catgegory and logically that makes it unIslamic, and in my previous posts I mentioned this:

"My intention is not to force you or the likes of you to change their unIslamic ways, I can only pray and hope that you are guided to the right path and at the same time, save myself from getting punished for not informing you."

I did not judge you as being unIslamic at all. aaoodhubillah min zaalik.

As for your wearing yellow while flying a kite is concerned, I was resferring to your equation "Basant=kiteflying" "yellow=kite-flying uniform".

Munney, there is more to kite flying than just wearing yellow. Otherwise you wont see all the molvis shedding crocodile tears would you?

Please be specific, are you referring to those "who dance with their swords" when you say "these are the same Arabs who get a royal treatment by Mollahs/Molvis"?

If yes, then in my opinion you are making a big mistake.

I think you need glasses, where did I saw flying kites is equivalent to wearing yellow. Dude, do you know that if you wore yellow and even if you didnt fly a kite, everyone will call you a fruitcake? All I am saying is, if name is the only problem you have with basant, then call it something else, and quit whining, End of Story!

As of 23 february 2004, Government of Punjab as banned kite flying in the whole province.

Basant has been banned in Punjab.
