Daily Jang: Urdu News - Latest Breaking News update Pakistan - jang.com.pk :(, there are a couple ofhundered incidents like this…

Not only money is wasted, but national resources, alongwith precious lives of ppl..

how many ppl die , only by getting cut by that Manjhaaa thing, and how many ppl die by falling from the roof tops.

how sad this is, and its being celebrated as culture.

Basant a festival of death!

Besides the death of humans, the hearts and souls of Lahoris and all those who support Basant also died.

Five people lost their lives in “festivites”!

Isn’t every life sacred?

Aren’t 2 Eid’s enough to celebrate? Or are we reducing their value?

Who is responsible for these deaths? …The government, the media, or the elite of Pakistan?

Its truely sad but why blame the whole nation for it? Its mostly a lahore thing, and I sitting here in islamabad despise kite flying as much as you do. i hope when the govt. bans it this time, it is permenant. lets get rid of basant or find a better way to celeberate it.

Seven dead at kite-flying festival
From correspondents in Lahore
February 16, 2004

SEVEN people were killed and more than 100 injured in Pakistan during the annual kite flying festival marking the arrival of spring, officials said today.

An 18-month-old girl’s throat was cut by a stray kite string while she was travelling with her parents on a motorbike, witnesses said, adding that she died on the spot.

Three people were electrocuted when metal wires they were using to fly or catch stray kites fell on live electric lines, and two people fell from roofs, hospital officials said.

A 12-year-old boy died while trying to catch a stray kite when he was hit by a car on a main road, police said.

More than 100 people had been reported injured since last night in various kite-related accidents, medical workers said.

Keep the festivities on folks…

This year the government is supporting it so much, and so is the media. Why aren't their any voices of opposition?

:flower1:Inna Lillahay Wa Inna Ilayehay Rajeoon:flower1:

may ALLAG give fast and speedy recovery to the injured. aameen

while its nice to see all these gr8 decorations n rejoicing moment, its also a dreadful event when several died just cuz of one festival :frowning: inallilah-e-rajeon, may those who are not among us today rest in peace ameen.

is it the festival itself or the way people chose to enjoy it that's dangerous?

Basant does not mean u have to fly kites with wire close to high power lines.. or discharge your weaons in the air..

If someone dies at a wedding due to firing.. is firing at the wedding bad or people should just stop having weddings?

whats the story behind this festival? anyone ....

Mr Smart guy, how can you stop lafangas, uneducated, good for nothing youth of Lahore (not all) from using metal wires? It was tried before and it never got stopped. You know our police system.....one of the worst in the world! Our courts sell justice!

Even on weddings there should not be such pomp and useless celebration (contradictory to the Islamic way). Almost all are caught up in the vicious circle of dowry (jahaiz). Where is the government's effort to dicourage that? Where is the government's effort to stop hooligans from disturbing other's peace with loud music. Have you ever seen basant? Does it suit our religious values? No!

The whole spirit and theme behind basant is evil! Its not just kite flying. Has the governemnt or the smart guys like you ever thought of promoting cleanliness? NO! Than why all this emphasis on such a bad event? Check out other issues in Pakistan, you would feel like running away from the hell hole which we ourselves have made. Sitting abroad and talking is easy!
