Barclays gets licence to operate in Pakistan

Re: Barclays gets licence to operate in Pakistan

I always give you a good anwer, you just dont read it, or you get upset...

I can tell you one thing, I have yet to read a single economist of any worth who still believes that the trickle down effect really works...
The reason it cant work in Pak...
People who are poor, dont have access to education, they cant benefit from industry that demands trained man power.
This is one HUGE failure on the part of Musharaf, that he didnt invest adequetly in Human resource development.

The people do not have proper access to services that the govt provides or claims to provide...
How can a poor villager benefit from a health initiative if they dont have access to a hospital? How do they even know about the initiative if they dont have access to information, many cant read...

I mean lets take this example... More people in the cities make money, they have more money to spend... The spend more on food... This should mean that more farmers benefit from the increased demand..

In Pakistan, Farmers would have a hard time coping with demand because they have a limited amount of production capacity.. Lack of irrigation etc.
Then there is a problem of feudalism.. This would benefit a certain group who control more then half the land. The people who work their dont see the gains from the economy because most profits will go to the landlord.
The because of the corruption, the govt wont go after people hording the food supply and this causes an increase in food prices...

I dont want to go of on a tangent but you can see what im driving at.. Its diffcult for poor people to benefit unless the govt takes servise directly to them, and empowers them through educatio etc, and thats where Mush has failed.

Now we could wait another 10-20 years, but we have already waited 8 years without any improvments. In a democracy, Mush would be voted out the way that was done in India...
People are dissatisifed with Mush now and whether we like it or not, he has become a liability.. How long do you think this political uncertainty can continue before its starts hitting economic growth?

I have come to the conclusion that the only way to progress in the long term is through political stability and good governance.. This can only be accompished through a democratic govt taht works by consesnus andis answerable to the people...
