Its good to know that President Zardari has taken steps to make sure that killers are brought to justice & are given proper punishment.
Whats even more sad about this is that ordinary people cannot get justice without intervention of the highest authorities in the country or human rights activists making international propaganda about such things. Where is our law and justice system? We all know where it is.
^ I was thinking the other day about the same thing. However, many such isolated cases, which are exceptionally tragic and few in number surface, and due to the magnitude of the tragedy they sometimes make it to notice of the highest office. I think its a good thing, because they will also try to find out why justice wasnt provided by the lower ups, esp. the police.
I remember Zainub bibi, who was tortured severely by her husband (a dhari walla religious guy). The brutal man used to violate his wife using a 'water heating rod', and eventually the news went to Benazir who was the PM at that time, and many people were fired because they ignored the whole thing by saying it was a 'miyaan biwi ka maamla'. Zainab was later sent abroad for emergency treatment by the PM herself. I dont think she would have gotten such justice and retribution through the local courts.

Yes, that is why heads need to roll at every level when such cases surface. Not suspensions or firings but punishments, brutal ones proportionate to the crimes they abet or ignore. However this would be unfair to the lower level subordinate police walay because their hands are tied to other power figures, which are in turn supported by powerful politicians. Pakistans problems have no gradual solution but only a brute force solution can unroot these issues. The government needs to prove that no one is above the law time and time again not only when politicians need kursi or vengeance.
