Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

In all fairness, if BD feel a wrong decision was made, it's within their rights to protest it. Just like we complained about Inzimam obstructing the field runouts or the forefeited Test in England.

Bangladeshis ARE very temperamental with a fragile ego. In the 1999 World cup, when BD beat Pakistan (most likely due to massive match-fixing by Pakistan), Wasim Akram (captain) said that he was glad that if Pakistan had to be defeated it was defeated at the hands of our Muslim brothers. BD captain on the other hand said it was revenge for 1971.

In their 2003 tour of Pakistan, BD felt very insulted and complained because Pakistan team was flying Economy Plus and they were flying Economy. It turned out that PIA had a contract with PCB that allowed Pak team to be upgraded to Economy Plus whenever space was available. The only difference in two classes was the Economy Plus allowed slightly more baggage.

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

Pakistanis use to have warm feelings for their Muslim "brethren" the Bangladeshis. And there is nothing wrong with that.
But we Pakistanis do not understand that Pakistanis are still depicted as mass murderers in Bangladeshi curriculum. Bangladeshis have to do propaganda among their young people in order to justify the red color in their flag, which they say represents the blood of "6 million" Bangladeshi people Pakistanis killed.

It is these bad feelings against Pakistan which show up this ridiculous way.

A Bangladeshi can be our good friend, just like an Indian. But on the national level Bangladeshis are always going to be Pakistan's rivals, probably as bitter as Indians.

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

I dont know the details. It was a close match - could have ben Bangladesh's 1st big win - so they may have got a bit carried away. No biggie.

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

Sore losers :naraz:

I am glad they lost now, I was amongst those who were feeling sorry for them.

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

but why do 100% of BD crowd support Pakistani team whenever we play there..especially against India.... if they hate us so much, why support us against other teams?

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

they dont. they were chanting "bhuuaaa pakistan bhuaaa" plenty of times during the india-pak match. usually bengalis support india and pak more or less equally but these days everyone thinks indian cricketers are arrogant overpaid a-holes.

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

OK maybe i am wrong in that case..what have other guppies noticed..i always felt that BD crowd supporting Pakistani team against india...not 50-50

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

Those supporting Pakistan are mostly Biharis who sided with Pakistan during the 1971 war.

^ it also means they still have a long way to go before they join the BIG BOYS of cricket and will maintain their minnow status for some time to come, they have not yet matured as professional cricketers.

and the next match they play us will teach them a lesson
and they will know who is the BOSS :ASA:

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

I think Pakistan should also challenge two glaring umpiring blunders which effectively cost us 40-50 runs in the game

Younis Khan was given out LBW off an inside edge
Umar Akmal was given out caught behind off his inner thigh

So lets have Cheema bowl the last over again but the target should be 11+ 40 = 51

fair deal guys..

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

Better not to bring Religion in it

Even Indians have so many Muslims and many other countries too so it means we start supporting them too

Where is religion in that post?

Final-over collision: Bangladesh

**Final-over collision: Bangladesh’s stance a cheap stunt, says Mani
**
Reacting strongly to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) plan of seeking a review of the final-over collision in the Asia Cup final, former International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ehsan Mani said that the development has spoilt the team’s brilliant show. Needing nine to win in the final over, delivered by Aizaz Cheema, Bangladesh managed just six as Pakistan triumphed to lift the Asia Cup.

However, the BCB showed its discontent and accused Cheema of deliberately blocking Mahmudullah Riyad from coming back for the second run – an incident that happened off the first ball of the over. Enayet Hossain Siraj, chairman of the BCB operations committee, said the board will complain to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and demand five penalty runs for the alleged offence, adding that a copy of the appeal will also be sent to the ICC.

However, Mani who attended the final, lashed out at the BCB for ‘spoiling an exciting cricket match’. **“It’s a cheap stunt,” Mani told The Express Tribune. “Such acts are against the spirit of the game.

“In fact, there are no grounds of making such an appeal. It’s the job of the umpires to make such decisions.

“A** few **wrong decisions were made during the match like the dismissal of Younus [Khan]. Can someone appeal for that now? I don’t feel such appeal will be facilitated and will be useless.”

Mani added that officials in Bangladesh, who won the hearts of many during their spirited show in the tournament, including the final, have spoilt their team’s show.

“Bangladesh spoiled their performance, which is disappointing.”

Mani also stressed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should take a strong stance against the accusation.

**PCB disappointed on appeal

Meanwhile, PCB Director Intikhab Alam called Bangladesh’s stance “disappointing”.

“It’s really sad and disappointing to hear the statement from the BCB official,” Alam told AFP. “It was a thrilling final and everyone praised Bangladesh for their fight and their decision to appeal is just an afterthought after the result.”

“The fact is that no match umpire or referee complained about this to the Pakistan management and Bangladesh’s complain will spoil a wonderful final which everyone enjoyed,” said Alam.

PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf refused to comment on the accusations. “ We’ll discuss the matter and then comment if required,” said Ashraf.

Making grounds to shun Pakistan tour: Basit

Meanwhile, former Test cricketer Basit Ali said the BCB was making grounds to avoid a proposed tour of Pakistan. “The appeal doesn’t make sense,” said Basit. “It seems they are making grounds to refuse to tour Pakistan.”

Bangladesh are yet to confirm their tour of Pakistan next month with officials close to the matter suggesting that the BCB was reluctant to send its team despite expressing satisfaction on security arrangements in the country.

Re: Bangladesh to challenge final over of Cheema

Acting more than 2 days after the fact? Perhaps Bangladesh Cricket Board got briefing from BCCI?

I did not see Cheema doing anything wrong (in highlights). He did not even move to come into batsman’s way. Batsman actually ran into him

and btw, case is closed now with Asian Cricket Counsel and ICC rejecting BD’s appeal.

PS:
We are already paying the price of supporting “brother” countries in political arena. Let professional game be professional game and lets there be no “muslim brother” countries. BD is just an opponent like others in fact now they have proved that they are sore losers too.
