Baking Samosas?

Re: Baking Samosas?

My mom bakes samosas…she ues tortilla bread for the cover…uses PAM type cooking sprayhttp://www.pam4you.com/pages/index_flash.jsp on both sides and bakes..they turn out really nice.

Re: Baking Samosas?

Yum…is the egg cooked?

Re: Baking Samosas?

ahmadjee,

I don't know if we're talking about the same product? I'm talking about the thick cheddar cheese slices, by Kraft. I read the ingredients on the Valveeta packet after a friend informed me, and yes indeed i did see "gelatin" written there.

Lusi - i've no idea why the would put gelatin in cheese. They surely lost one addicted consumer.

Re: Baking Samosas?

Sehar bibi, I am talking about this Valveeta, which one are you talking about?

Re: Baking Samosas?

Thats called Fillo/Filo Dough or they are called pastry sheets usually by pepperidge farm.. I got fillo sheets, brand is apollo. i used them for making chicken patties which turned out lovely.

Re: Baking Samosas?

How does she join the ends of tortilla to give it samosa shape?

Re: Baking Samosas?

Cut it in half to make a semi-circle and then make a cone of it by overlapping half of the straight side to the other half of it. Stuff the filling and then glue the top part to make the samosa shape.

Re: Baking Samosas?

I tried the recipe posted by Mahru and fried my samosas. The filling was awesome but the crust wasnt too great. I have another recipe for the crust and will post results for that when i try it.

Re: Baking Samosas?

Read my post again. Wha do you use for glue?

Re: Baking Samosas?

For the glue, I use corn starch mixed with water (you can also add some flour to make it a bit thicker, if needed).

Re: Baking Samosas?

Fg, I make a thick paste of all purpose flour (flour+water) and it works really well.

Re: Baking Samosas?

I use eggwhite.

Re: Baking Samosas?

^ to glue 'tortillas'?

Re: Baking Samosas?

spring roll wrappers. whip up one egg white and see if it works as well on tortillas. otherwise go back to the flour-water mixture I guess Do remember to let us know/

Re: Baking Samosas?

I KNOW wwhat makes spring rolls stick. My question was for ‘tortillas’ :hoonh:

Re: Baking Samosas?

Fg, the flour water mixture should stick the tortillas too.

Re: Baking Samosas?

Thanks, Lusi. You have answered my question.

Re: Baking Samosas?

Greetings everyone,

Here’s some simple clarification for others reading this recipe.

2 cups of liquid, or flour or sugar, or whatever equals 500 millilitres.
Volume is measured in liters, and millilitres, not by weight.

So 2 cups = 16 oz or 500 milliliters.

500 mg is a measurement of *weight *, not volume.

The poster of the recipe typed the wrong abbreviation, and thus the
resulting confusion.

Re: Baking Samosas?

Baked samosa are an old hat. We use those thin spring roll sheets from chinese grocery and bake. Works fine. Inside stuff whatever your ammi taught you.

Re: Baking Samosas?

For those of u having trouble making samosa shapes from square pasty sheets…yes, i have a lot of time and am very bored!
