This is bound to happen, when we start giving more time to TV and other media, than the the people around us. Overall bonding between the relationships has gone down. It feels that our old generations were more attached to their parents (elders) inspite of strict and at distance attitude than our generation which got free hand to say / share something with the parents

I don't think fearing your parent to the point you are sitting frozen in one corner while your heart bounces back and fourth aginst your chest counts as 'good manners' - it's fear. My dad tells me all sorts of stories how they would hide, look busy or start doing school work as soon as my Grandad would walk into the house. However, he himself has been one of those fathers who always expected all his children to jump on him as group, as soon he walks through the front door. We would become absolute chatter boxes whenever our dad would return from work and long trips. So I would say, people with time have learned to be more expressive with their affection.
