I normaly enjoy and agree with most of your posts, but labeling all Muslims as being not moderate is just out of line.
In fact I know more Moderate Muslims, and of different domiciles too, Than I do Fanatics, but the problem is that the fanatics are such extremists, that they give a bad name and reputation to all Muslims.
I know its very difficult for westerners to comprehend it, but its a sad fact.

Did any Sunni group claim responsibility for the recent incident?
Many Sunni mosques have also been targets in the past. Does it mean we should make the 'assumption' that it were the Shias behind it?

As a non-Muslim that has had several muslim best friends growing up, having gone freely right up to their kitchen calling their mom auntie, having them come to my place to spend many a moons gossiping and hanging out .... it is as much a cruel truth to me as to all those who have not a single violent thought in their minds. Everytime a terrorist act occurs a part of me says what an evil culture and another part says is this what my friends and their parents believed in. But my personal knowledge of those friends gives me the answer - it is not the evil culture.
But what about all those whi have had no contact with any muslims? what is their only exposure to that culture? why is it so had for the extremists to understand?
I don't know what the solution is but if tolerance to a lot of things - sects within islam, other religions, modern notions etc, is not brought about it's going to be pretty rough for the kids growing up islamic countries.
And why is it so difficult for leaders of govts to understand? Doesn't Bush have advisors that are smart enough to tell him that he can do some relatively simple things and change the world? What an opportunity he has!

I agree with those who say that its inconclusive that sunnies did it not withsanding the long sunni-shia violence history that area has. That was the view of Ayatollah Sistani who reigned in Shias from attacking sunnies in response to the many, many shia bombings over the past two years. Recent news reports seemed to justify that.
And as dope says it is pointless to ask the moderate majority to reign in those fanatics. Because they cant, they're not amongst them. What is fair to ask the majority is to condemn these killings with a remotely comparable fervour they condemn danish cartoons. How many protests occurred over Palestine and Kashimire events over the years, and how powerful were you over the Israeli and Indian governments respectively? How many times has the murder of Muslims in those lands been the topic of sermons in Muslim mosques, how about condemning this attack or the hundreds before it from the same mosques?
There is simply no comparison between the scale of attacks on shias and the scale of attacks on sunnies, not just in places where the shias are minority, but in Iraq too. This does NOT mean that the average shia is more tolerant than the average sunni. This does suggest that shia Ayatollahs who have issued fatawa against the attacks on Sunnies are doing their bit. The silent majority is peaceful and definitely not desiring bloodshed, but too silent about this issue.

Here is a reality for you my dear.
Sunni suicide bombers as per their Mullahs will go to heaven. It will be a Sunni heaven where Shias and Ahmadis will not be allowed. The same way, Shia bombers will go to Shia-heaven where Sunnis will not be allowed. In some ways I say Amen to it. I mean who wants to be in a heaven where Maulvis are frothing at each other while chasing Hoors and Ghilmans. That kind of heaven will soon turn to hell. a Mullah Hell.
Another lesson for you Waleed that you have hit puberty! There is no Muslim brotherhood. If someone tells you on the contrary, then you are simply being brother-hood-winked. Go to any Arab country and dare tell them that you are a Pakistani. From then on, you will be a Rafik, or Miskeen but no brother.
If you learn these two lessons, you will grow up, otherwise you will end up like mini-you-me-guppies whose brains have been taken out of their skulls and now they just follow their Mullahs while living in some galaxy far far away.

Protesters go berserk in Peshawar
- Mob damages public property, signboards
- Telenor franchise in Attock set on fire

PESHAWAR: Police on Monday arrested 18 protesters on Monday after thousands of students attacked public and private property and burned several shops here to protest the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in some European countries.
The police tear-gassed around 5,000 enraged students who pulled down dozens of signboards of a Norwegian cellular firm. The demonstration was the biggest in the city since the cartoons, considered blasphemous by Muslims, were reprinted in some Western newspapers. “We stayed away because the issue is very sensitive and any attempt to stop these people from expressing themselves against the issue will aggravate the situation,” a senior police official told Daily Times on condition of anonymity.
Norwegian firm Telenor’s property was the obvious target of the demonstrators who pulled down all promotional signboards with the Telenor logo and messages from shops, police and eyewitnesses said. The protestors became unruly after they were barred from marching towards Governor’s House. “They then headed towards the Edwards College and threw stones at the recently constructed portion of the historical Edwards College,” eyewitnesses said.
Besides inflicting damage to the college building, a number of college students also suffered injuries, a senior college teacher said. Later, the protestors attacked the Peshawar Press Club smashing its windowpanes, damaging the club’s reception and offices of the president and general-secretary, the club said in a statement. “Police contingent remained silent spectators during the attack,” the club management said. The students, also joined by members of the general public, then divided themselves into several small groups with each group containing a thousand demonstrators and took to different streets in the cantonment area. “One group reached Sadder bazaar at around 10.30am and began smashing windowpanes of several shops without any attempt from police to protect public property from being attacked,” Muhammad Noor, a shopkeeper who had pulled down the shutter, said. “Not a single policeman tried to stop the mob, which targeted every public installation including traffic signals and streetlights,” he said.
The students were joined by the Mobile Dealers Association of Bilour Plaza and later by every one present at the venue and an organised campaign was then launched against the signboards of Telenor.
Police started firing teargas shells after more than two dozens of the signboards were razed to the ground and torched. Police arrested 18 protesters but it was not clear what charges they were booked under. Meanwhile, protesters set fire to a shop selling products by Telenor in Attock, Reuters quoted Norway’s largest telecom company spokesman as saying. “On Sunday an outlet in Attock selling Telenor products was set on fire,” Telenor spokesman Espen Tuman Johnsn said. “There are some SMSs going around urging people to boycott Danish and Norwegian goods in general and some about Telenor in particular,” he said.
Johnson said the boycott campaign had had little impact on Telenor’s operations in Pakistan. Telenor’s fully owned Pakistan subsidiary has around a seven percent market share and about 1.2 million subscribers. Telenor has 11 Norwegian nationals working in Pakistan but said it had no plans to pull any of them out of the country.
