The reason was Hindus inside the boogies shouting inflamatory remarks for moslem. It mayhave been impulsive.
Godhra is the only moslem majority town in gujrat, and never at peace with itself. So this incident from Godhra, was no surprises. Its the only place in India which has Shia-Sunni violence.
but there has been no reply from any of the well wishers of indian muslims for the questin whether any of the riots in india been started by hindus. the truth is that there is history of riots started by hindus as far as my knowledge goes.every riot has been started by minorities n that is never taken up by the press r the so called secularists.is it bcoz they think india has got vast majority of hindus n hence death of a mere 100 would not inflict any damage?.

Didnt they start the riots after the burning train, which if i remember correctly proven not to have been started from the outside. Rather from inside.

i wouldnt even agree with that. it was jus a structure built over a destructed temple.the entire mosque had been constructed using only the materials of the temple.
historically too mughals peaked destruction of hindu temples under aurangazeb, he even had a seperate tax called giziya for non muslims but that is never taught in schools.
but there has never been any history of hindu rulers doing that.but still they harp over a non phenomenon as though they r the gaurdians
