England lead the series 2-1 :jhanda:

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

31.5 Warne to Giles, two runs, THAT'S IT! England have done it! full and
on the pads, flicked through the on side for two of the most
valuable runs Ashley Giles has ever scored in his life!
England have scored a famous victory here at Trent Bridge! And
after years and years of waiting English fans can celebrate being
ahead in an Ashes series!
** But spare a thought for the Australians as well, they played like
true champions today, getting so close to defending a small total
like 128**

*^ agree ... Aussies man.. *

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

Unbelievable!! I am at loss of words to be honest!!!

:hula:

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

My heart goes out to Warnie. He single handedly has played like a true champ throughout this series. Age has taken its toll on other members but no warne is alive and kicking.

England deserved to win the match. There is no doubt about that. The fact that aussies came so close to deny them (YET again) through the backdoor shouldnt take away the fact that they absolutely bullied australia in last three matches.

Now it is upto Australia to do all the running, win the last match and win the ashes.

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

how many intense moments still have to come? This series is one of the best ever.

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

I disagree. You can’t take away anything from lee. And what about Mcgrath’s performance in first test. Yes its not the usual aussie performace but its also not a single man show. You can otherwise say the same for england that it has been a one man show by Flintoff.

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

faces of aussies players in the balcony telling the story. This is what I have been waiting to see the entire summer. You don't see aussies openly crying that often:D

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

Regarding England, all the bowlers have chipped in with wickets. Their bowling has worked wonderfully as a unit .Yes flintoff has been their star and main performer but look at the performances from each player. Simon Jones is the leading wicket taker in this series, Ashle giles, Harmision and in even hoggard in this test was amongst the wickets.

Now aussies, yes Lee was magnificant with both bat and bowl but his were not match winning performances. He bowled well in patches but batted well always while Warne bowled well and batted well througout. Though this series has seen Lee coming of age as a test player.

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

Absolutey :D. Ashes is slipping from their hands. Credit to them that they are holding to it as hard as they can even when they are not the team they once were. But man what a sight is it and I am loving it

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

The simple fact is that England has not only matched Austrlia in terms of performance but have outdone them as well. And no one ever imagined that happening. Therefore people are looking more crictically at aussie performance than english, mainly because aussie have not met their own created performance standards after a very long time.
In the current situation, any other opponent but not australia, would have gotten equal credit and not one man show label

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

well, i think aus. has make a comeback and they will win 5th test easily cuz how they fight in the 4th innings was SUPERB!!!
HATS OFF to sharne warne...

"This Australian side has more cart horses than a Victorian mail coach ... suddenly this team is looking its age. Sometimes, when the end comes, it is quick. It's been a wonderful run. Harder days lie ahead."

woah. That was one nail biting game. Thank god the hometeam came round in the end, I can breathe easy for now. :rotato:

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

ENGLAND coach Duncan Fletcher sparked an Ashes war by directing a cheap taunt at Australian captain Ricky Ponting during the tense fourth Test.

*The Daily Telegraph *can confirm that Fletcher, looking out from the England balcony, smiled at Ponting and gave him a condescending wave as the skipper made his way up the steps at Trent Bridge towards the dressing-room after he was dismissed for 48 in Australia’s second innings on Saturday.

This made Ponting’s blood boil even further because he was already furious at being run out by a substitute fieldsman – a major bone of contention with the tourists through the tour.

An angry Ponting responded by looking up at the England balcony – which is directly above the Australians’ – and aiming a volley of abuse at Fletcher.

Fletcher denied the claim he antagonised Ponting but it was confirmed the incident did happen.

“From my point of view, I just looked at him as he came up the stairs and was watching the players out in the middle,” Fletcher said. "I hardly ever go out there but I had been inside chatting to someone when the run-out had taken place.

“I just went out to see what was happening.”

Ponting was called through for what was always going to be a risky single by Damien Martyn, regardless of who was fielding.

It just happened to be substitute Gary Pratt, an English county player from Durham and a master fieldsman who ran in from cover and completed a brilliant direct hit.

Pratt was on for injured paceman Simon Jones, who had gone to hospital for X-rays on his sore right ankle.

But, as he waited for the third umpire’s decision, Ponting was heard on a stump microphone questioning umpire Aleem Dar about whether Jones was really injured.

Ponting thought it was another case of England rotating one of their fast bowlers off the ground for a rest and replacing him with a fielding specialist, a practice which has riled the Australians all tour.

Lanky paceman Chris Tremlett was in England’s 12-man squad for the Test but is sluggish in the field.

As he began heading back to the pavilion, Ponting turned to the England players who had gathered in a huddle and gave them a spray.

It is understood Ponting was spoken to by match referee Ranjan Madugalle after play and he later issued an apology.

“I was frustrated with my dismissal given that it was at a crucial stage of the game and I had worked really hard to get to that position,” Ponting said in a statement.

"I no doubt let myself down with my reaction and for that I apologise to those who view me as a role model.

“My frustration with getting out was combined with my disappointment of being run out by a substitute fieldsman, an issue that has concerned us since the start of the summer and that we raised prior to the series.” The Australians noticed the tactic through the one-day series when 12th man and gun fielder Vikram Solanki often replaced the fast bowlers in short spells.

Hmmm so basically there are 2 culprits now. Australia lost because of Aleem dar and Duncan Fletcher.

Re: Ashes Fourth Test - Trent Bridge (Merged)

World class whining from Ponting there.

Not much of a captain's comments, and I'm afraid lad you won't be much of a captain upon your return. The only question is whether the cricket board has any sense and gives it to Warnie!
