^ that would mean to leave it as it is no? Because if we can’t ignore our strategic goals and india can’t ignore their strategic issues then there is no peaceful settlement.
There are only two solutions to the dispute. Either both countries accept the LOC as the international border or make kashmir a separate nation. Because even if a plebiscite is held and Kasmiries choose to be with either one of the two nations, the other party will not accept such a result.

IMHO, there are quite a few options to resolving the Kashmir dispute. Some of the following conflict resolution methods have been studied in-depth. a) We can have a plebicite according to the U.N. resolutions. b) We can recognise the de facto border as the international border. c) We can keep maintaining the status quo. d) We can give both parts of Kashmir self autonomy. e) Last but not the least, Kashmir can be made a shared region b/w India and Pakistan(a very tough sell to nationalists on both sides of the border).
