Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Same here.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Cricket should not be a victim of the crime. The one dayers should and must go on, i dont mind if we loose all matches in the absence of these morons.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

the ODIs should be canceled.

no Pakistan team should play until a full investigation is completed and all the guilty players are given the harshest punishments.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Anyone remember that slog from BUTT in Galle last year?

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

^ We have to wait and see as for todays' session, ICC has clearly said that play will take place as scheduled ...

Lets watch all these players for the last time and it would be interesting to see if there is any guilty or shame on their faces ...

Re: Arrest Over Cricket ‘Match-Fixing’ At Lords

LOL, politicians statement were not so non sensical afterall.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

didn't watch that game... and so don't know that shot.

but all the matches we lost out of nowhere including the test match and ODIs in Sri Lanka under Younis must have been fixed.

the other thing that amuses me is Butt's balls. for someone who doesn't even has his own place secured even after years at the top level, he actually has the balls to underperform. now that is brave.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Nope what was that ?

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

The 7 players will probably be trying to stage a revolt.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Wahab riaz or umar amin's involvement don't add up to me. Why would umar under perform when he is trying to cement his place

Re: Arrest Over Cricket ‘Match-Fixing’ At Lords

In what seems to be the biggest, most sensational sporting scandal ever, several top Pakistani players have been caught red handed taking bribes for match fixing and betting. Website ‘News of the World’ reported that it cracked a multi-million pound cricket match-fixing ring which has even rigged the current Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan.

Shockingly, Pak captain Salman Butt has been identified as the ringleader in the band of corrupt players which includes top men like Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, Kamran Akmal and seven others, all banking huge sums from bookies and betting syndicates. “As millions back home in Pakistan struggle against hunger and disease amid devastating floods, the cheats were defiling the reputation of Lord’s and lining their own pockets.” Mazher Mahmood of News of the World was quoted as saying. The scandal broke after a sting operation was launched on London-based fixer Mazhar Majeed and Scotland Yard launched their own probe into the scandal. Mazhar was captured on camera taking a bribe of £150,000 cash from the undercover reporters, and telling them exactly when Pak bowlers would ball no-balls in the ongoing match against England. The proof that the game was rigged came when Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif delivered three no-balls at Lords, exactly when Mazher had said. Pakistan had been bowled out for 74 in their first innings and were forced to follow on.

Mazher Majeed took the £150,000 cash from the reporter as “entry ticket” into a huge betting syndicate, and claimed that he could detail what would happen and when on the field of play next day. Majeed also revealed that the scam is rife and future games against England this summer are already earmarked for cheating. He has also opened Swiss bank accounts for the cricketers to hide their bribe money. . “I manage ten of the players,” Majid revealed, “I do all their affairs like contracts, sponsorship, marketing, everything really. I work very closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board.” Majid went on to reveal that it was the Pakistani players who persuaded him to join the match-fixing bandwagon. “I’ve been doing it with them, the Pakistani team, for about 2½ years. And we’ve made masses and masses of money. The players would never tell anybody else. They were the ones who actually approached me about this. This is the beauty of it.” he said.

According to Majid, he oversees cheating by using no-balls, specifying how many runs will be scored or conceded in certain overs, with signals such as changing gloves to confirm the fix is on. “I’ve been dealing with these guys for seven years, okay? Who we deal with and how we deal with it is very, very important. This is the main thing. I’m only dealing with certain people. How we do it and what we do is very, very crucial.”

The 35-year-old Majid is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers. Scotland Yard raided the Pakistani cricketers’ rooms and found £150,000. The cricketers’ mobile phones have been seized. There has been no comment yet from the Pakistani cricket team.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

  • final Day of the game Pakistan start at 2nd innings 71/2 (Salman Butt 28*, Mohammad Yousuf 12*, 19 ov)
  • target 168
  • Have not lost a series in SL for a while...when everyone in world loses to them in SL.
  • Butt faces first over of the day, Maiden....good cautious approach from a mature player
  • 2nd Over, Moyo dismissed first ball....
  • same over

20.4
Herath to Salman Butt, OUT, Butt has holed out! Pakistan are in a spot of bother now, the pressure was on and Butt, who had played so well yesterday, heaved it straight down deep square leg's throat, unnecessary shot, he probably aimed to relieve some of the pressure but has ended up creating more
Salman Butt c Paranavitana b Herath 28 (99m 53b 4x4 0x6) SR: 52.83
Pakistan have been rocked early today. Shoaib Malik walks in to weather the storm, this is more interesting than we thought it would be. Irresponsible cricket there by Salman Butt

That defeat to me last year was worst than SCG as to me it indicated how un-able of handling pressure butt is and I have maintained this position from roughly about 2006 about Butt's in ability to perform under pressure

This was my FB status that SCG day

**" I cant make my mind up on which one hurts more...1st test SL in July or this one. " **

Re: Arrest Over Cricket ‘Match-Fixing’ At Lords

The International Cricket Council said it was aware of the situation and it, along with the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket Board, was “fully assisting” police with their inquiries.

“No players nor team officials have been arrested in relation to this incident and the fourth npower Test match will continue as scheduled on Sunday,” said the ICC’s statement. “As this is now subject to a police investigation neither ICC, ECB, PCB nor the ground authority, the MCC, will make any further comment.”

Interesting comment by a user posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3Tv2cH1biA

As a Pakistani person, and a long time cricket follower, I feel humiliated and depressed by this. I feel I should apologize to all the lovers of cricket out there, for the disgrace that these men have brought to the game. and the calamity that will surely follow.

I think that not only should these guys be given life bans, but that Pakistan cricket should be suspended from test status.

I think even Zimbabwe deserve test match status more than us.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

I wonder why they waited till today to disclose this, were they waiting for the match to be decided.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

^ Might be today was the day when the monies were delivered to the players as the police recovered the monies from players rooms ...

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

It is easy to catch a bowler bowling a no-ball but what about a batsman. You have to look at all the players with suspicion now. Umar Akmal going for his shots in the first over he faces is something very fishy. The way the openers lost their wickets twice in a day flashing at the new ball is also quite incomprehensible.

i wonder who tipped the police... i wouldn't be surprised if it is envious Shoaib Malik.

People who think education is the reason that we are corrupt as a nation. i disagree. The prophet was illiterate too but he taught us what morals should be upheld in ramazan. These hypocrites should be ashamed for letting the country down.

Re: Arrest Over Cricket 'Match-Fixing' At Lords

Can anyone find that Majid Bhatti article where he mentioned the names of these two brothers in match fixing.
