JI should be banned. Its a terrorist org just like TTP.
I'll throw you a bone. Yes, JI should be banned, if and only if the military be put firmly back in the barracks under civilian control. This going on about JI is missing the point: the military brass is the one who got us here. Not JI. They've failed the nation too many times to count, and wasted the lives of so many of the soldiers many armchair warriors here are trying to protect the honor of.
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
JI the worst thing ever happened to Pakistan
And Munawar Hassan do someone even care about what this 80 year old man says
Get a grip people. Probably the worse thing that happened to Pakistan was the utter arrogance and racism of the West towards the East in the 70's. That led to a civil war. It did not turn out well. And so many armchair warriors here want Pakistan to rush headlong into another...

It took 66 years you guys to reach this conclusion. JI has always been b-team to army. It has always supported tyrant rules of military dictatorships since partition. Perhaps now the situation has changed. No more love affair between them. It took 66years for JI and its supporters to accept the truth. The damage this party has inflicted to the foundations of Pakistan seems to be permanent. Changing love affair to hate affair with army will not make any difference now. It is too late, my friend.

JI is like the Klu Kkux Klan of Pakistan

When in 71, the army was confronting the militants in Bangladesh JI was acting as their b team (in the form of al shams albadr), suddenly after 40 years jamaat has recognized their folly? There is a reason why Bangladesh has banned the party in their country.

Kind of odd, blaming JI for what the army and political leadership in the West had instigated and executed with full gusto...i

JI played very dirty role in this tragedy. Perhaps you never heard of Al-Shams and Al-Badr, terrorist organizations worked directly under West Pakistan army. They massacre 200 professors and teachers of Dacca University in single day. That is why JI has been banned in Bangladesh and facing war crimes there.

I have. Who was their sponsor? What was the impetus of their actions? Why was there a civil war in the first place? Why are people here who trump up their patriotism when Pakistani JI says something against the military turn to the actions of a pro-Pakistani JI to somehow try and make a pro-military point against the anti-Pakistani JI? I think peoples attitudes here are as muddled as that last sentence.
Second, it really is crass politics behind the banning of the Bangladeshi JI...it's not like it's been pending for the past 40 years. The particular people being charged...trumped up is an expression that comes to mind.
I say it again: if you want the real culprits, look to the West. Why is Bangladesh not pulling an Israel and leading the charge against Pakistani political and military figures behind the atrocities? Why is no one here who is so concerned with massacres of people in Pakistan and Bangladesh, through history, not looking at the misery caused by the very people who were charged with the protection of ALL peoples of Pakistan...
To be sure, I think the answer to the current problems with terrorism do lie with the Army. But no solution is possible if it`s business as usual.

Never was a JI supporter. Just find it odd how now all of a sudden, JI detractors are pulling out all the stops as if all problems Pakistan had ever faced was due to them...that`s first class nonsense. I wonder how long it will take for these folks to realize that...
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
They have a major role in de-railing democracy in 1977 - they ran a baseless and false movement against Bhutto then - which was limited to only major cities - the slogans of the movement were imposition of Islamic System, inflation back to 1970 level and what not!!! They took out welcome procession on of the 12 Rabiual awal in early 1980s when Zia introduced so called Islamic system.
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
Ban them like Bangladesh did.
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
Seriously? What happened to the freedom of speech? A democracy protects such basic tenets regardless of what is said unless it is a criminal offense. I don't agree with what was said. But banning them is like saying the US should ban the Tea party. You can't ban groups for just saying what they think no matter how much you disagree with it.
I disagree with banning them for the views expressed. However, I think this provides a good opportunity to rid politics of religion. They should ban religious parties because religion and politics is a bad mix which results in much hypocrisy and a lot of pretentiousness with exactly zero benefits.
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
In democracy, "banning" a political party you don't like is never a solution to anything. What would you do if the tables turn around and tomorrow someone puts a ban on certain secular parties? So setting such nonsensical and dangerous precedent must be avoided at all cost. Playing politics of banning is a hallmark of weak, frightened and and immature democratic system.
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
Banning will strengthen them only.......let peopel see for who they are...

Yes, legitimate political parties cannot be banned in a democracy, but terrorists supporters can be banned. The concept of free speech is not absolute in any country, and slander, hate speech...supporting terrorism, and treason, etc., are not parts of protected speech.

Who decides which party is legitimate political party or not? What's the definition of it? By your logic, parties like MQM, PPP and ANP must also be banned as they are responsible for carrying out massive scale urban terrorism in Karachi? While we're at it, we must also ban PTI because according to Mualana Fazlu it's not a legitimate political party but a Jewish lobby operating in an 'Islamic country'. You see how silly and nonsensical the whole politics of ban this and that sounds? It's sheer desperation and and helplessness and nothing else. If we all ban political parties over difference of opinion or whatever then what are we left with? Fascism?
You need to grow some tolerance for democracy and educate yourself how it really works. Munawar Hussain made an inflammatory remark which he later stated as his personal opinion. Nonetheless it still caused a much needed national debate in the country (which is always a good thing), it enraged people, army and the media. The court takes a notice and JI in return suffers a huge, absolutely political blow and a massive dent in their image and relations with the armed forces. Where is the all doom and gloom that some people are desperately trying to paint? If anything people need to root for a more responsive and vigilant system where such inflammatory remarks are met with quick individual suspension from public office.
Re: Army: Munawar Hassan insulted soldiers, martyrs
^^^ By that logic the USA and Pakistan should also tolerate TTP and Al-Quida b/c its all about freedom of speech. JI is a terrorists org & it should banned for supporting terrorists who are trying to overthrow Pakistani state.
