LOL.
Abu sometimes needs a computer and Ami helps him with his work. Abu is self-sufficient on computers now while we have set Ami’s homepage on G-Mail so all she knows is entering username, password and E-mail and basic search in Google.
Mobiles is a different matter lol. We have taught Ami how to text, taught Abu too. Its taken a while to learn but they have the hang of it. The first texts they sent me were mumbo jumbo lol was hilarious. Dont think they are adept with their phone functions though, only texting and calling.
Grown-ups are so hard to teach! I keep losing my temper on the simple repeated questions they ask me that I’d taught them a 100 times

Re: Are your parents technology literate?
The day my mum understands what facebook is and how to log in, I will have to kill facebook, delete it, remove it off my account, block it…whatever. =|
However, she knows how to use her phone and she can read texts just can’t reply back…we’re getting there slowly but surely :halo: she can also get the news link from favourites if she needs to view it online. ![]()
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
my dad knows most of the basic tech-stuff, but not alot. Doesnt use FB or anything just have a hotmail account :D My mom doesnt know anything at all, she recently learnt how to turn off the computer when my younger siblings forget to, and just how to use mobile phone.
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
i wonder what will happen to us when we reach our parents age. technology is increasing an such a fast rate, that in 20 to 30 years from now, will WE be tech savvy, the way we are now?
or will our kids run over us with all these new gadgets that only they know how to use, and get exasperated when we ask them to explain it to us? :D
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
my dad started using facebook and skype before me. thats all I hafta say.

My dad used cell phones and stuff before I did (duh). Though I think when it came to computers…my brother was ahead of my dad in that regards.
My mom just learnt how to use a cell phone.
My chachu uses facebook, hes hardly ever on but he does check from time to time and when we meet up we talk about it like, “oh uss ka status dekha tha” ![]()
Re: Are your parents technology literate?

Re: Are your parents technology literate?
I remember about 10 or so years ago when we had made a hotmail account for Abbu, he was trying to open it by himself once and kept at it for about 30 minutes before giving up and asking what was he doing wrong. He was entering his email address in the address bar and kept pressing enter :D
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
Mom - big no no . she is not even interested in learning.
Dad - yes . only to the extent he requires it at his work.
thats a good question…iam going to feel so ![]()
I can so see my kids shouting at me when I have to learn new things. ![]()
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
i think we will know as much as our kids will know if we keep ourselves updated, but it depends on if we really will have the time to sit infront of the computer etc..
Ditto ![]()
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
Nah your joking my folk and myself havent a clue with technology!
But we have a natural skill at using it, it’s as if we were born to test these things, i have never owned a games console but gimme five minutes and i swear i’ll button bash my way through any game!
Same with cars if it dont work hit it! LMAO i am a mechanic! :roftl:
My mother is heading towards 70 and she's an avid Facebook/Twitter user.....:D
That's awesome!!!
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
My parents knows as much as they need to know. My mum has basic computer knowledge and can use mobile and says she cant imagine her life without it now :) My dad too knows how to use computer, read online newspapers, online banking etc. But no they are not Facebook users and dont think they ever will be.
Baba sometimes uses the net to read Urdu newspapers but other than that he doesn't bother and both Baba and Ammi use mobile phones, iPods etc. but they've never really bothered with facebook, messenger, email etc..
Ammi thinks I'm sad and have no life because I spent hours and hours infront of my laptop.
My dad doesn't really have many hobbies other than ARY, PTV, GEO and JANG newspaper..
Ammi likes gardening, cooking, art, textiles and pets etc.
So they don't really miss out, they have plenty of other things to do.
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
they are.
Dad has a twitter and facebook and knows everything there is to know about technology, honestly more than us kids.....mom on the other hand is totally the opposite she depends on us for everything, If she wants to watch something online we have to do everything for her but on the positive side she has learned that when the screen saver comes onto screen to move the mouse :) Back when I had a razor she got used to my phone and was able to use it ....now since I changed my phone to a blackberry she gets super pissed whenever she has to use it and I get lectured about hoe I picked out the worst phone ever
hahaha same here..mom gets super mad whenever she has to use my touch screen phone. she says yeh muj say use nain kya jata..i'm thinkin of changing my phones . :) but i've to say she does try touch screen and now her success rate of dialing a # is almost 80% or more :)..but she's quite good at surfing..she can google a bit..and browse different pages..
dad's much more tech savvy,,though he's never had to use my touch screen (n i dont think he'll understand it in first attempt either)..he's more comfy with computer..mostly uses to read newspaper, check his hotmail etc..but i dont c ny of my parents using fb..my dad always says "mera bhi fb bana do" so he can just log in n see but making up an account is not his cup of tea.
Re: Are your parents technology literate?
My dad is ok with the internet, not lost but not super confident either whilst my mum is brilliant and really good with checking her emails etc. With mobile phones it's the opposite, my mum doesn't even keep her phone charged most of the time, it is sooooo annoying..
