ZK, I guess no relationship can continue for long if we divide our duties as 'giving' and 'receiving'. We can start our relationships where one person is on the giving end and the other person is on the receiving end. But this cannot continue for long. It has to be a good balance for both the parties.

I know what you are saying and i totally agree. But i see there are some people who r either at one end or the other and i don’t understand how they can do it wholeheartedly in either of the cases :eek: :bummer:.

There are people who can be on ONE end only… but only for a limited period of time, depending on their situation. For example, a new DIL might be on a giving end with her new MIL because she needs to make a good place in the heart of the MIL and make some good relationship with MIL who already has good relationships with her other DILs and the new DIL makes extra efforts by being on the giving end only. But this won’t continue for long and if the MIL doesn’t start giving also, the new DIL would stop giving too.

If a person is on the giving end ONLY, this might be because of disbalance of power or because of unconditional love. But they can only do it for sometime and if they are compensated, they would soon realise that they are being unreasonably taken for granted and thus they learn and then they change. Its thus a temporary state only.
